Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. Today my call dropped because of EDD and Claimyr heard my concern on the same chat and another call was made within the hour.

Used this service a couple times now. Before I'd call 200 times in less than a weak frustrated as can be. But using claimyr with a couple hours of waiting i was on the line with an representative or on hold. THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO DENY PEOPLE!! They make the rules so complicated on purpose. I know people who worked for YEARS and still got denied for ridiculous reasons. Don't give up though - you can appeal their decision.

Wait I'm confused - what's the difference between regular unemployment and standby unemployment? I thought there was only one type??
Standby is for when you're temporarily laid off but your employer expects to call you back within a specific timeframe. With standby, you don't have to do the job search requirements. Regular UI is for when you're permanently separated from your job and actively looking for new work.

The unemployment system is so messed up with these situations! They want you to look for work but then if you're actually sick they make it impossible to transition to disability benefits. I've been dealing with chronic pain for months and still forcing myself to apply for jobs I know I can't do just to keep my benefits. It's ridiculous that there's no clear guidance on this from NYS Department of Labor.

I had trouble reaching NYS Department of Labor by phone when I needed to check on my claim status after getting laid off. Kept getting busy signals and getting hung up on. The key thing to remember is that unemployment insurance follows your work location, not your residence. Since your employer has been paying unemployment insurance taxes to New York State, that's where your benefits would come from if needed. Keep your pay stubs showing the NY tax withholdings as they'll be helpful documentation if you ever need to file a claim with NYS Department of Labor.
