THE SYSTEM IS RIGGED AGAINST YOUNG PEOPLE! They want us to have experience but won't give us a chance to GET experience. Meanwhile older workers are taking entry level jobs because they can't find anything in their field. It's a complete mess and NYS Department of Labor just treats everyone the same regardless of age or circumstances.
If you're having trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor to clarify this kind of thing, I used a service called Claimyr that helped me reach an actual agent when I had questions about my claim. You can check it out at claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Really saved me from spending hours on hold trying to get simple questions answered.
Just went through this same thing trying to reach someone at NYS Department of Labor to verify my calculation. Spent hours on hold getting nowhere. Finally used claimyr.com - they got me through to an actual agent in like 10 minutes. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. The agent confirmed my calculation was correct and explained the whole base period thing really clearly.
The whole system is so confusing! Why can't they just show the calculation step by step when they approve your claim? I'm still not sure if mine is right either.
The NYS unemployment system is SO confusing about this stuff. I've been unemployed since December and still don't understand half the rules. Why can't they just make it simple - if you work, you lose benefits. Instead we have all these calculations and formulas that nobody explains clearly.

Ugh this whole system is such a mess. I've been dealing with NYS Department of Labor for months and it's always something - first it was adjudication delays, now it's processing delays. They really need to get their act together because people are depending on these benefits to survive.
