Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. The unemployment system is BROKEN! Six months and you still can't find work? That's not your fault, that's the economy being rigged against working people. NYS Department of Labor keeps talking about low unemployment but those numbers don't reflect people who've given up looking or are underemployed in gig work.
While the system definitely has flaws, the official unemployment rate does capture people actively seeking work. The issue is more about job quality and wage stagnation than the raw numbers.
Don't give up! I was unemployed for 8 months before landing my current job. The key is treating job searching like a full-time job itself. I know the NYS Department of Labor only requires 3 job contacts per week but I was doing 10-15. Also make sure you're keeping detailed records in case they audit your job search log.

Found something in Albany actually. The state capital area has more opportunities than people realize, especially if you're open to government or nonprofit work.

Never heard of that but honestly anything that helps you get through those phone lines sounds worth trying. I've been hung up on so many times trying to reach NYS Department of Labor.

the processing time depends on alot of factors like if you quit or got fired, if theres any issues with your wages, stuff like that. mine took 2 weeks but my friend's took over a month because they had to verify something with her employer
I was laid off due to company downsizing so hopefully that helps speed things up. No issues on my end that I know of.

omg this hits home so hard. lost my job at a restaurant in march and the unemployment barely covers anything. had to sell my car already and now getting to job interviews is a nightmare. the whole thing is just designed to keep us down
