Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. Wait is adjudication the same thing as an appeal? I'm so confused by all these terms and my claim has been sitting there for 3 weeks now with no updates
No, adjudication is when they're reviewing your claim to make sure you meet eligibility requirements. An appeal is what you file if they deny your claim and you disagree with their decision. Adjudication usually takes 2-4 weeks depending on how complex your case is.

AI taking jobs is the new normal unfortunately. At least you can collect while you figure things out. I've been on unemployment twice in the past three years because of automation and downsizing. The system isn't really designed for this kind of mass displacement but what can you do.
Wait, does this mean my job could be next?? I work in accounting and I keep hearing about AI doing taxes and bookkeeping. Should I be worried about my position? How do I even prepare for something like this?

you can also get it if your job eliminates your position entirely even if they offer you something else thats way different or pays way less. happened to my friend when her company restructured and they wanted to move her from marketing manager to receptionist at half the pay
Don't forget about situations like workplace discrimination or retaliation. If you quit because of illegal treatment by your employer, that's considered good cause. But you need solid documentation and it's harder to prove than a straightforward layoff.

the whole system is ridiculous tbh. I got denied the first time because apparently I didn't search for enough jobs even though I was searching every day. Had to appeal and wait another month. Make sure you keep detailed records of every job you apply to because they WILL ask for proof.

You need to make 3 work search contacts per week minimum. Keep a log with company name, position, date, and how you applied. Screenshots of online applications work as proof.

The whole NYS Department of Labor system is a JOKE! They process everything slowly on purpose to save money. My claim has been 'under review' for three weeks now with ZERO communication. Meanwhile bills keep coming and they act like we don't matter!!
