Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. Today my call dropped because of EDD and Claimyr heard my concern on the same chat and another call was made within the hour.

Used this service a couple times now. Before I'd call 200 times in less than a weak frustrated as can be. The current maximum weekly benefit rate in NY is $504 for 2025, but most people don't qualify for the max. NYS Department of Labor uses a sliding scale based on your base period wages. You can check your monetary determination letter on my.ny.gov for the exact breakdown of how they calculated your amount.

Wait I'm 20 and my friend told me there were special programs for young unemployed people through NYS Department of Labor? Like job training stuff? Or is that something different?
That's probably referring to workforce development programs like WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act) which can provide training opportunities for younger workers. Those are separate from regular unemployment benefits though - you can be on UI and still participate in training programs.

The unemployment benefits are free, but if you can't get through the busy phone lines to ask questions about your claim, some people use that service to help with the calling part. It's optional though - you can always keep trying to call NYS Department of Labor yourself for free.

The NYS Department of Labor system is honestly such a nightmare to deal with. I've been trying to get through to someone for weeks about an issue with my claim and their phone lines are always busy. The website crashes constantly and half the time you can't even file your weekly claim. It's like they don't want people to actually get benefits.
