Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. The whole system is so frustrating! Filed my claim 2 months ago and STILL dealing with adjudication issues. NYS Department of Labor keeps asking for the same documents over and over. But yeah, file right away because the bureaucracy takes forever anyway.

The unemployment measure could also be referring to statistical data that NYS Department of Labor collects for labor market analysis. They track unemployment rates, duration of claims, benefit utilization - all that gets measured and reported. Your individual claim contributes to those broader unemployment measures for the state.

Wait I'm confused now... I thought when they raise interest rates it means everything gets more expensive? Doesn't that mean our unemployment should go up too to match? This whole economic stuff is so confusing and nobody explains it properly.
I understand the confusion! Interest rates and inflation are related but different things. Your unemployment benefits are calculated from your past wages when you worked, not current prices. NYS Department of Labor doesn't adjust them for cost of living changes during your claim period.

honestly the whole system is screwed. they keep saying there are jobs available but half of them are probably going to be automated in the next few years anyway. what's the point of job searching if everything's going to robots?

The whole system is ridiculous. They make you jump through hoops while companies aren't even hiring! I've applied to 200+ jobs and gotten maybe 5 interviews. Meanwhile they threaten to cut off benefits if you don't document every single contact perfectly.
