Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. I remember needing to click some tiny text link at the bottom of a random page that said something like "Begin your unemployment insurance application" - it wasn't even a proper button! Look for small text links not just obvious buttons.
I went through this same nightmare last month! After ID.me verification, it took almost a week for the system to sync properly. The key is to log into labor.ny.gov (not the ID.me site) and look under "Unemployment Services" - but here's the catch: the button might be called something weird like "Apply for Benefits" or "Initial Claim" instead of "File a Claim." Also, try different browsers - their site is glitchy with some of them. If you're still stuck after trying all the suggestions here, honestly just use one of those callback services like Claimyr that people mentioned. I was skeptical at first but talking to an actual person fixed everything in 5 minutes that I couldn't solve in 2 weeks of clicking around their confusing website. Hang in there!

Sorry to hear about your layoff! I went through something similar a few months ago. One thing I wish someone had told me - when you file online, make sure to create your NY.gov ID account first before starting the unemployment application. It can save you time and prevent you from losing your progress halfway through. Also, have your social security card, driver's license, and last employer's info handy. The system can be glitchy sometimes, so don't get discouraged if it takes a few tries. You've got this!

Wow, reading through all these responses really shows how widespread this ID.me verification issue is! I'm dealing with something similar right now - been waiting 2 weeks for my verification to go through. I think I'm going to try contacting my assembly person's office first before paying for a callback service. Has anyone else had success with that route?

If that doesn t'work out, at least you ll'have tried the no-cost option before considering paid services. The whole ID.me thing really does seem to be a nightmare for so many people. This is such a helpful thread! I'm currently dealing with the exact same ID.me verification nightmare - going on week 4 now. @Carlos Mendoza so glad you got yours resolved! I've been documenting everything and taking screenshots because this whole process feels so broken. The fact that ID.me can show "verified" on their end but NYSDOL still shows "pending" is just mind-boggling. How is there not better integration between these systems? I'm definitely going to try the assembly person route first based on what @Paolo Bianchi suggested. Has anyone had luck with social media? Sometimes companies respond faster when you post publicly about issues...
@Nia Wilson I haven t'tried social media yet but that s'actually a really smart idea! Sometimes public pressure on Twitter or Facebook gets faster responses than going through normal channels. NYSDOL has social media accounts and they might be more responsive there since it s'public-facing. Worth a shot alongside contacting your assembly person - you could try both approaches at the same time. The documentation and screenshots are definitely smart too - having a paper trail of this whole mess could be helpful if you need to escalate further. Keep us posted on what works!

Wait I'm confused about the calculation. Is it based on your last job's wages or all your jobs? I had two part-time jobs before getting laid off and I don't know which wages they use for the NYS Department of Labor calculation.
NYS Department of Labor uses ALL covered employment from your base period, not just your last job. They look at the four quarters before you filed and use your highest quarter earnings to calculate your weekly benefit amount.
I went through this exact situation last year when I got laid off from my electrical work making around $1900/week. Like others said, you'll probably hit the max benefit of $504/week which is rough when you're used to much higher income. The important thing is to file immediately - don't wait! I made the mistake of waiting a few days thinking I might get called back, and you can't backdate benefits before your filing date. Also make sure you have all your pay stubs ready because NYS Department of Labor will ask for documentation. The whole process takes a few weeks to get your first payment, so the sooner you start the better. Good luck man, I know it's stressful but it does help bridge the gap while you're job hunting.

Hey Ravi! The monetary determination letter is actually good news - it means you meet the wage requirements for benefits. Now you just need to wait for the eligibility determination where they review why you lost your job. Keep doing your weekly certifications even while waiting, and make sure you're doing your work search activities (3 per week in NY). If you get approved, you'll receive backpay from your claim date of 10/07/2024. The wait can be frustrating but you're on the right track! 👍
