Just went through this same nightmare! What finally worked for me was filing a complaint with the NY Department of Labor's ombudsman office. You can do it online and they actually respond within 48 hours. Also try calling the Albany office directly instead of the main number - sometimes they're less busy. Don't lose hope, took me 7 weeks but I eventually got all my back pay!
December is always slow bc of holidays. my friend who works at unemployment says they're super backed up this time of year
Have you tried checking if there are any missing documents or verification steps? Sometimes they'll put your claim on hold without sending proper notifications. Log into your account and look for any red flags or action items that might be blocking approval. Also, if you're really desperate, some people have had luck contacting their local assembly member's office - they can sometimes help push things along with the DOL.
Hey everyone! New to this community but dealing with the same issue. Applied back in March and got that "claim can be paid" text about 10 days ago. Still waiting on my first payment and honestly getting pretty anxious about it. Reading through all your experiences is really helpful - sounds like 3-4 weeks is pretty normal after getting that text? Going to keep certifying weekly like you all suggested and maybe try that claimyr service if nothing happens by next week. Thanks for sharing your stories, makes me feel less alone in this process! 🤞
Welcome to the community @Jamal Wilson! You're definitely not alone in this - seems like the 3-4 week wait after that text is pretty standard based on what everyone's sharing here. I'm dealing with something similar myself, applied around the same time and just trying to stay patient. The advice about keeping up with weekly certifications seems really important. Hope your payment comes through soon! 🤞
Hey! I'm dealing with the exact same thing right now - filed 3 weeks ago and still waiting on my first payment after the waiting week. Been certifying religiously every Sunday but nothing yet. Really stressing about bills piling up. Has anyone had luck calling the main number or is it still impossible to get through? Might have to try that claimyr thing people are mentioning...
@Andre Dupont I m'in almost the exact same situation! Filed about 2.5 weeks ago and just finished my waiting week. The anxiety about bills is real 😰 From what everyone s'saying here, it sounds like 2-4 weeks is normal but definitely try calling if you hit the 3 week mark. The claimyr service seems to be getting good reviews from people here - might be worth the $20 just for peace of mind. Keep certifying though, that s'the most important thing!
Just went through this same situation last month! For me, the first payment came exactly 3 weeks after completing my waiting week. The key thing is to make sure you're logging into your account and checking for any "action items" or document requests - sometimes they need additional verification and won't tell you unless you check. Also double-check that your direct deposit info is correct in your profile. Once mine started, I got all the backpay in one lump sum which was actually pretty nice. Hang in there, the wait is nerve-wracking but it does come through!
@Isla Fischer This is super helpful! I didn t'even think to check for action items in my account - just been focusing on the weekly certifications. Going to log in right now and see if there s'anything I missed. The direct deposit tip is good too, would hate for that to be the holdup. Really appreciate you sharing your timeline, gives me hope that I m'probably close since I m'right around that 3 week mark now 🤞

Hey Oliver, I feel your pain - went through the exact same thing last year. The key is persistence and timing. Here's what finally worked for me: 1. Call RIGHT at 8:00 AM sharp (not 7:55, not 8:05 - exactly 8:00) 2. Have multiple phones going if possible 3. When you get the automated menu, press 1-4-1-1 (this gets you to claims status) 4. If busy signal, immediately redial Also, make sure your weekly certifications are being filed correctly - sometimes there's a glitch that stops payments even if you think you're doing it right. Check your online account for any red flags or required actions. Don't give up! It took me 2 solid weeks of calling but once I got through they sorted everything out in 15 minutes. You got this! 💪
