Ask the community...
Anyone else notice how the DOL seems to be extra strict about EVERYTHING in 2025? I swear they're looking for any reason to deny benefits. My friend just got his claim denied because he accidentally put the wrong end date for his last job (off by TWO DAYS) and they're treating it like he committed fraud! The whole appeal process is a nightmare too.
While NYSDOL does have strict verification procedures, a simple date error shouldn't result in a fraud determination. Your friend should file an appeal immediately and provide documentation showing it was an honest mistake. The hearing process allows for correcting unintentional errors. Appeals must be filed within 30 days of the determination notice, so time is critical.
Thank you all for the great advice and encouragement! This really has been such a supportive community during a tough time. I've taken notes from all your suggestions - especially about properly reporting when I do find work and looking into the 599 Training Program. Wishing everyone the best of luck, whether you're just starting unemployment or nearing the end like me!
Update: I followed the advice to list it under 'Job Search Preparation' > 'Attended workshop' and included all the details about the virtual job fair. I also contacted one employer directly after the fair, which I listed separately as an 'Employer Contact.' Just wanted to thank everyone for their help!
Does ANYONE else find it RIDICULOUS that they make the form so CONFUSING?!? Even their own activities don't fit neatly into their categories!!! This is a PERFECT example of how BROKEN the system is!!! I spent 3 HOURS last week trying to figure out where to put my career counseling session!!
anybody else notice theres been TONS of unemployment fraud lately?? like 3 people at my job had this happen in the past 2 months. the system is broken!!
Quick update on the child support aspect: When unemployment fraud affects child support payments, you should also contact the New York Child Support Helpline at 1-888-208-4485 and request to speak with their Fraud Investigation Unit. Specifically ask for Form CSE-2025-F, which is their new specialized form for reporting benefits intercepted through identity theft. Also, have your child's mother contact them separately to verify her payment method preferences are correct in the system. Sometimes fraudsters change not only your information but recipient information as well to redirect payments.
has anyone else noticed that they NEVER send you email updates about backpay reviews?? like they'll email about regular stuff but when it comes to actually giving you YOUR money suddenly they go silent
UPDATE: I just wanted to thank everyone for your advice! I tried calling using that Claimyr service that @profile6 mentioned, and I actually got through to a claims specialist in about 15 minutes! The agent confirmed my account was flagged for fraud review due to login attempts from multiple locations (which I never did - definitely someone trying to hack my account). She escalated my case and said I should see my back pay within 7-10 business days. She also noted that they needed an additional form of ID verification which I was able to provide while on the call. Fingers crossed this finally resolves it! Will update again when/if the money comes through.
That's great news! Make sure to follow up if you don't see the payment within the timeframe they mentioned. Sometimes cases need a second push to get fully processed. Document the call details - the agent's name, ID number if provided, the call reference number, and exactly what they said would happen next. This makes follow-up much easier if needed.

I had a heart attack last month when my payment didn't come through on Friday. Turned out there was a "processing delay" according to the rep I finally reached on Tuesday. No explanation, no warning, nothing! The system is so frustrating sometimes. I feel your anxiety about this - living payment to payment is stressful enough without wondering if the money will actually arrive when promised.

•This happens way too often with NYSDOL. I wish they would at least send a text alert when payments are delayed instead of leaving everyone hanging and panicking.
