Really made a difference, save me time and energy from going to a local office for making the call.
Worth not wasting your time calling for hours.
Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. Today my call dropped because of EDD and Claimyr heard my concern on the same chat and another call was made within the hour.

Used this service a couple times now. Before I'd call 200 times in less than a weak frustrated as can be. But using claimyr with a couple hours of waiting i was on the line with an representative or on hold. Wait I thought it was higher than that? I could swear I saw $520 somewhere on the my.ny.gov site...
You might be looking at an old page or thinking of a different benefit type. The regular UI maximum has been $504 for 2024. Sometimes the site has cached pages that show older amounts.
Just to add - that $504 is before taxes if you choose to have them withheld. You can elect to have 10% federal tax taken out when you certify your weekly claims. Also make sure you understand the job search requirements because they will audit those and if you don't have proper documentation in your job search log, they can disqualify you.
Good point about the taxes. I'll probably have them withhold since I don't want a big tax bill next year.

THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS A JOKE! They make it impossible to reach anyone and then close early. I've been trying to resolve an overpayment issue for MONTHS and can never get through. These offices should be open evenings and weekends for working people!
I feel your pain but getting angry won't solve the problem. The system is overwhelmed but there are ways to work with it.

The unemployment rate in my area just hit 5.1% and honestly the job market is TERRIBLE right now. I've been on unemployment for 6 months and can barely find anything that pays decent. The NYS Department of Labor keeps pushing these job fairs but half the employers there are offering minimum wage with no benefits.
Same situation here! The numbers they publish don't reflect how hard it actually is to find work that pays enough to live on.

One thing that really helped me when I was trying to reach NYS Department of Labor about my benefit calculation was using this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com). Never heard of that but sounds useful. The NYS Department of Labor phone system is absolutely terrible.
Don't forget you also have to meet the job search requirements to keep getting your unemployment pay. NYS Department of Labor requires you to make at least 3 job contacts per week and keep a log of your search activities. They can ask to see your job search log at any time, so make sure you're documenting everything properly.

Don't overthink it too much! The unemployment office just wants to know you lost your job through no fault of your own. Whether its structural or cyclical or whatever doesn't really change your benefits amount or duration. Just be honest on your weekly claims about looking for work and you'll be fine.
