The IRS is a joke. They can take our money instantly but when it comes to giving refunds suddenly everything moves at sloth speed. I'm in the same boat - TT shows pending for 3 weeks now. Called IRS but couldn't get thru the robot hell.
Use Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an agent. Was the only way I finally got answers. IRS had flagged my return for ID verification but never bothered to tell me. Got it cleared up in one call.
thanks for the tip! will check it out. this whole process is driving me insane.
This is actually really common with TT and their banking partner SBTPG. They hold onto refunds for weird reasons sometimes. Best thing to do: 1. Call SBTPG directly (not TT customer service) 2. Check your IRS transcript 3. Make sure your bank info is correct There's also a TT forum specifically for these issues that might have more specific advice.
Not sure if this will make you feel any better, but I have Chime and my status changed to pending right before my deposit hit last year. My refund was around 9k and it posted about 36 hours after the pending status appeared. Just be patient!
That actually does make me feel better, thanks! Hoping mine follows the same pattern š¤
Double-check your bank account info on your return. My friend had this happen and it turned out she had one digit wrong in her account number. Her refund got sent back to the IRS and she had to request a paper check which took 6 more weeks. Hopefully that's not your situation but worth checking!
I work for a tax office (not one of the big chains) and we actually try to discourage clients from having fees taken from their refund precisely because of these extra charges. But about 70% of people still choose that option anyway, and then get mad when they see the final cost. š©
I think this speaks to the economic reality that many Americans don't have $300-400 available at tax time to pay upfront. So they're stuck paying the extra fees.
This whole system is a joke. They expect us to pay on time but take 6+ months to send refunds? And then charge interest when we're late but don't pay interest when THEY are? Make it make sense.
The interest they pay is nothing compared to what you could have done with that money if you had it on time. It's a scam.
Everyone saying 'just call the IRS' has clearly not tried calling the IRS lately 𤣠I spent TWO WEEKS trying to get through. Finally used claimyr.com to get connected and found out what was wrong with my return. Worth every penny to get it resolved and get my refund.

I work at a tax office (not TurboTax) and we see this ALL the time. TurboTax's status tracker is garbage - they literally just check WMR themselves and then display it in their app, but often it glitches or fails to update properly. As long as WMR shows your DDD you're fine.

ā¢This! I used to work at a competitor and can confirm TT's refund tracker is trash. Their whole app is poorly coded.

i had the EXACT same issue this year. TurboTax changed from DDD to pending on me too but my refund hit my bank account right on schedule. Don't stress it.
