Final update: After all this advice, I got through manually on attempt #89 this morning at 8:12am. Spanish agent was very helpful and resolved my mom's issue in 20 minutes. Sometimes persistence pays off, but honestly considering all the time invested, a callback service would have been smarter.
The math on this is crazy. If each attempt takes 2 minutes, that's 3 hours just dialing, not counting hold time.
Exactly. Next time I'm definitely using Claimyr or similar. My time is worth more than the cost.
One more tip for Spanish speakers: if you do get through, have all your documents ready in advance. The agents are professional but they move quickly and you don't want to waste the call looking for paperwork.
Quick question - when you finally reach an agent to file a claim, do they handle everything over the phone or do you still need to submit documents separately? Trying to prepare for when I eventually get through.
Been using Claimyr for the past week after manual calling failed. Got through 3 times in 5 days with an average wait of 25 minutes. Honestly the best investment I've made. Here's their demo video if anyone's curious: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10
For anyone calling the EDD questions phone number: avoid the lunch blackout from 12-1:30pm. The entire call center goes to lunch and nobody picks up. Found this out after wasting 3 hours calling during that window.
Update: Used the early morning strategy mentioned here and got through to the EDD questions phone number on attempt #31 at 8:07am today. Agent confirmed I need to reapply since my benefit year ended. Thanks everyone for the timing tips!
For anyone still manually calling - make sure you have snacks, water, and a phone charger ready. This process can take literally all day and you don't want to stop when you're finally making progress.
Has anyone calculated how much their time is worth vs just paying for a callback service? I'm curious about the break-even point.

Been tracking my calling attempts from Yorba Linda in a spreadsheet. 847 total calls over 3 weeks, got on hold 4 times, 3 calls dropped, spoke to 1 agent. That's a 0.12% success rate for manual calling.

•Your dedication is impressive but that's exactly why I switched to claimyr.com after my first week of failed attempts. Life's too short.

•I'm definitely considering it after seeing these numbers. My obsessive calling is clearly not sustainable.

Monday mornings and Friday afternoons are the absolute worst times to call. Mondays everyone's calling about weekend issues, Fridays people are rushing before the weekend. Stick to Tuesday-Thursday for best odds.

•Avoid calling after 4pm any day too. They seem to stop taking new calls even though they're supposedly open until 5pm.

•Good point about the 4pm cutoff. I noticed that pattern too - like they're winding down for the day.
