Based on everything in this thread, you should definitely call EDD ASAP about that gap between your SDI and PFL. That's not normal and you could be missing out on benefits. When I called about my issue, the rep was able to fix the dates and issue backpay for the missing weeks. Don't wait on this one - the longer you wait, the harder it can be to get retroactive benefits approved.
Thank you everyone for the advice! I'm definitely calling first thing tomorrow morning. I'll try regular calling first, but if I can't get through, I might try that Claimyr service since several of you mentioned it worked. I'll update after I hopefully get this sorted out!
Good luck with your call tomorrow! Just wanted to add - when you call, have your SSN, claim number (if you have one), and the exact dates of your SDI claim ready. They'll ask for all of this upfront. Also, if the first rep can't help with the date issue, politely ask to speak to a supervisor or specialist who handles SDI-to-PFL transitions. Sometimes the first-level reps don't have access to make those kinds of adjustments. And definitely get that claim number for your call like StarGazer101 mentioned - it's your proof that you contacted them about the issue. Hope you get those missing weeks sorted out!
This is such great advice! I'm new to navigating EDD and didn't even know there were different levels of reps or that I could ask for a supervisor. Really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences here - it's way more helpful than anything I could find on the official EDD website. Definitely taking notes on all these tips for when I have to deal with this system myself someday!
Have you tried submitting a new claim? I know it sounds counterintuitive, but sometimes their system glitches and "loses" claims. A friend of mine had the same issue - submitted in January, nothing for months, then submitted a fresh claim in April and suddenly both claims showed up and got processed within 2 weeks. Might be worth a shot while you're also trying the other suggestions here. Make sure to mention in any correspondence that this is a resubmission due to the original claim disappearing from their system.
Just went through this whole process. My advice? Document EVERYTHING. Every call, every letter, every form you submit. It'll save you so much headache later if there are any issues.
As someone who just went through this process a few months ago, I wanted to add a couple things that really helped me: 1. When filling out the disability begin date, use the date your doctor gives you in writing - don't guess! Mine was different than I expected. 2. For the occupation section, be specific about your actual job duties, not just your title. It can affect your benefit amount. 3. Submit your application as soon as possible - there's usually a waiting period before benefits kick in. Also, @Jamal Wilson - make sure you have your doctor fill out their part of the form completely. That was the biggest delay for me because I had to go back and get missing info. Good luck with everything! 🍀
Protip: if you can't get through on the phone, try reaching out on Twitter. Sometimes their social media team is more responsive than the actual call center.
I'm dealing with the exact same thing! Applied 5 weeks ago and still stuck on "processing." It's so frustrating not knowing what's happening or if there's an issue with my application. I've tried calling but like everyone else mentioned, can't get through. Thanks for posting this - at least I know I'm not alone in this mess. Going to try some of the suggestions here, especially calling right when they open. This whole system really needs an overhaul 😤

Congrats on the new baby! 🎉 Try not to stress too much about the claim (easier said than done, I know). Focus on enjoying this time with your little one. The money will come eventually.

•Thank you! You're right, I should try to enjoy this time more. It's just hard not to worry about the finances.

I'm going through something similar right now! Filed my PFL claim 6 weeks ago for bonding time with my adopted daughter and still waiting. What's really frustrating is that bills don't stop coming just because EDD is slow. I've been checking the online portal obsessively but no updates there either. Has anyone had luck with contacting their local assembly member's office? I've heard they can sometimes help push things along when you're dealing with state agencies.
