If I could give 10 stars I would

If I could give 10 stars I would If I could give 10 stars I would Such an amazing service so needed during the times when EDD almost never picks up Claimyr gets me on the phone with EDD every time without fail faster. A much needed service without Claimyr I would have never received the payment I needed to support me during my postpartum recovery. Thank you so much Claimyr!

Really made a difference

Really made a difference, save me time and energy from going to a local office for making the call.

Worth not wasting your time calling for hours.

Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. Today my call dropped because of EDD and Claimyr heard my concern on the same chat and another call was made within the hour.

An incredibly helpful service

An incredibly helpful service! Got me connected to a CA EDD agent without major hassle (outside of EDD's agents dropping calls – which Claimyr has free protection for). If you need to file a new claim and can't do it online, pay the $ to Claimyr to get the process started. Absolutely worth it!

Consistent,frustration free, quality Service.

Used this service a couple times now. Before I'd call 200 times in less than a weak frustrated as can be. But using claimyr with a couple hours of waiting i was on the line with an representative or on hold. Dropped a couple times but each reconnected not long after and was mission accomplished, thanks to Claimyr.

IT WORKS!! Not a scam!

I tried for weeks to get thru to EDD PFL program with no luck. I gave this a try thinking it may be a scam. OMG! It worked and They got thru within an hour and my claim is going to finally get paid!! I upgraded to the $60 call. Best $60 spent!

Hey Bruno, congrats on your new baby! 🎊 This is definitely a processing error - your CalWORKs cash aid should have increased automatically just like your CalFresh did. I had the exact same thing happen when my son was born last year. What likely happened is your worker updated one system but missed the other. It's frustratingly common! Here's what worked for me: call RIGHT at 8am when they open (much better chance of getting through), and if that fails, go to the office in person with your birth certificate and EBT statements showing the CalFresh increase as proof. When you get someone, ask them to verify your CalWORKs household size includes your baby and request they recalculate your grant amount immediately. Also make sure they add the $30/month diaper allowance - it should be automatic but nothing seems to be with these county offices! The silver lining is you should get retroactive payments once it's fixed. In my case, it was almost $250 in backpay that showed up within a week of them correcting the mistake. Don't give up mama - you and your little one deserve every benefit you're entitled to! Keep us posted on how it goes! 💪

Thank you NeonNova! 🙏 Your experience gives me so much hope - $250 in backpay would be a huge help right now! I'm definitely going to try calling at exactly 8am tomorrow morning, and if that doesn't work I'll march down to the office with all my paperwork. It's wild how common this processing error seems to be based on everyone's stories here. Really appreciate you mentioning the timeline too - knowing it could be fixed within a week once I get the right person helps manage my expectations. This community has been such a lifesaver, I was starting to think I was going crazy! Will definitely keep everyone posted once I get this sorted out! 💕

Congratulations on your new baby! 🍼 This is definitely not normal and sounds like a processing error. Your CalWORKs cash aid should have automatically increased when you added your newborn, just like your CalFresh did. I'm a caseworker and see this happen unfortunately often - usually what occurs is the worker updates one system but forgets to process the household size change for the other program. Sometimes different staff handle CalFresh vs CalWORKs updates and things fall through the cracks. Here's what you should do: Call first thing at 8am when the office opens for your best chance of getting through. If you can't reach anyone by phone, go to the office in person with your birth certificate and your EBT card/statements showing the CalFresh increase as proof that they partially processed your case. When you speak with someone, specifically ask them to: 1. Verify your CalWORKs household size includes your newborn 2. Recalculate your grant amount based on the correct household size 3. Apply the $30/month diaper allowance (should be automatic for kids under 3) 4. Process any retroactive payments you're owed Don't let them brush you off - this should have been automatic and you deserve the full benefits you're eligible for. The retroactive payments should cover any months they missed since you reported the birth. Keep pushing until it's fixed!

Thank you Nick! It's really helpful to get perspective from someone who actually works in the system. Knowing that this "falls through the cracks" more often than it should makes me feel less like I did something wrong. I really appreciate you laying out exactly what to ask for when I finally get through to someone - having that specific checklist will help me stay focused and make sure they address everything. The fact that you mentioned retroactive payments should cover all the missed months gives me confidence to push for what we're owed. Going to try calling at 8am sharp tomorrow and if that fails, I'm heading to the office with all my paperwork. Thanks for taking the time to help us navigate this frustrating system! 🙏

Good news! Just got both my February and March transportation payments today on my EBT card! Check yours if you haven't already - looks like they're fixing the issue now.

Nothing for me yet... typical that some people get it and others don't. Guess I'll be calling again tomorrow 🙄

@Keisha Johnson Don t'give up! Sometimes the payments get processed in batches. Try using that Claimyr service @Amina Diallo mentioned earlier - it really does help you get through to someone faster. When you do talk to your worker, ask them to check if your case got flagged for any reason that might be delaying the payment. Also make sure they have your correct EBT card number on file. Hope you get yours soon!

I'm so glad I found this thread! I'm also missing my February transportation payment and was starting to panic. I'm in Orange County and my WTW worker finally called me back today after I left multiple messages. She confirmed it's the same system issue affecting multiple counties. She said they're processing the back payments in waves and mine should show up by Friday. In the meantime, she told me to keep all my receipts for any transportation costs I had to pay out of pocket - gas, bus passes, etc. - and they can potentially reimburse those too. It's frustrating but at least now I know it's not just me and there's an actual fix coming. Hang in there everyone!

Thanks for sharing this update! I'm new to CalWORKs and this is my first time dealing with something like this. It's really reassuring to hear that other counties are experiencing the same issue and that there's actually a solution in progress. I was starting to think I had done something wrong with my paperwork. Question - when you say they can reimburse out-of-pocket transportation costs, do we need to submit those receipts through our WTW worker or is there a separate process? I've been using rideshare to get to my job training and those receipts are adding up fast!

Welcome to CalWORKs, Carlos! I'm new here too and just got my approval last month. Reading through all these responses has been super helpful - I had no idea about some of this stuff like the 48-month clock and Earned Income Disregard. I'm still waiting for my WTW orientation notice (it's been 2.5 weeks since approval) and getting pretty anxious about it. Does anyone know if there's a way to check on the status or if we can call to ask when it's coming? I keep checking my mail every day and worry I might have missed something important. Also curious about the childcare application process - do we apply at the orientation or should we try to get that started beforehand? I have a 4-year-old and really need to get this figured out before any mandatory activities start. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - this community is already helping me feel less overwhelmed about the whole process!

Hey AstroExplorer! Welcome to the community! I'm pretty new too and have been learning so much from everyone here. For checking on your WTW orientation status, you can try calling your county's CalWORKs office, but honestly getting through can be really frustrating. That Claimyr service that TechNinja mentioned earlier might be worth trying if you keep getting stuck on hold. From what I've gathered reading through these comments, you can start the childcare application process at orientation, but it sounds like getting it going earlier might be better since it takes time to process. Maybe call and ask if you can get the childcare paperwork started before your orientation appointment? 2.5 weeks isn't too long yet based on what others are saying - seems like anywhere from 2-8 weeks is normal depending on your county. But I totally get the anxiety about waiting! Keep checking that mail and don't worry about missing it - those notices are usually pretty obvious when they arrive. Hang in there - sounds like we're both figuring this out together!

Hey Carlos! Congrats on getting approved - that's a huge step! I'm actually in a similar situation and just wanted to share what I've learned from my experience. I got my WTW orientation notice exactly 18 days after my CalWORKs approval, and the orientation was scheduled for about 2 weeks from the date of the notice. One thing that really helped me was calling ahead to ask about the childcare application process. I was able to get some of the paperwork started before my orientation, which sped things up a lot. Also, since you already have part-time work, make sure to bring recent paystubs to your orientation - they'll use that to calculate how many additional hours you need. The WTW worker will work with you to create a plan that fits your schedule around your existing job. In my case, they were pretty flexible about timing activities around my work hours. The key is just showing up to everything they schedule and communicating if you have any conflicts. Don't stress too much about the timeline - you'll have at least a few weeks from when you get the notice to when orientation happens, so there's time to arrange childcare. And like others mentioned, definitely ask about all the assistance programs available. Good luck!

Thanks Isabella! That's really helpful to know the exact timeline you experienced. 18 days sounds pretty reasonable and gives me a better idea of what to expect. I'm definitely going to try calling ahead about the childcare paperwork like you suggested - seems like getting a head start on that is key from what everyone's saying. It's reassuring to hear that the WTW workers are flexible about working around existing job schedules. I was worried they'd want me to quit my current job or something! Really appreciate you sharing your experience.

That's great news that it worked out! Just wanted to add for anyone else reading this - if you ever have issues with Bank of America tellers not knowing about EBT Cash Aid withdrawals, you can ask to speak with a supervisor or show them that it's specifically mentioned in their EBT program guidelines. I've had a couple newer tellers who weren't familiar with the process, but once they checked with someone more experienced it was no problem. Also, keep your receipt from the teller withdrawal just like you would with an ATM transaction - it shows the withdrawal amount and remaining balance which is helpful for budgeting.

That's such a helpful tip about asking for a supervisor if the teller isn't familiar with EBT withdrawals! I'm new to CalWORKs and honestly didn't even know I could do bank teller withdrawals until I saw this thread. Reading everyone's experiences has been really eye-opening - I've been struggling with ATM fees eating into my benefits too. Definitely going to try the Bank of America teller method next time instead of those sketchy ATMs that seem to always have "technical issues" when you need your money most. Thanks for all the detailed advice everyone!

Welcome to CalWORKs and glad you found this thread helpful! Just wanted to add another tip - if you're ever in a situation where you need cash urgently but Bank of America branches are closed, you can also get cash back at many grocery stores when you buy something with your EBT card. Places like Safeway, Walmart, and some CVS locations let you get cash back from your Cash Aid account when you make a purchase. It's usually limited to like $50-100 depending on the store, but it's free and can be a lifesaver on weekends or after banking hours. The key is to make sure you're selecting "Cash" not "Food" when they ask which account to use at checkout.

@Miguel Hernández That s'an amazing tip about getting cash back at grocery stores! I had no idea you could do that with the Cash Aid portion of EBT. This is so helpful because I work weird hours and banks are usually closed when I m'free. Quick question - when you do the cash back at stores, do they charge any fees for that service? And do you know if there s'a daily limit across all cash back transactions, or is it just per store visit? Thanks for sharing this, it s'going to be a game changer for me!

This is a really good thread with lots of helpful info! I'm new to CalWORKs and had no idea about the "excluded member" rule before reading this. It actually makes sense when you think about it - they're trying to help as many family members as possible rather than denying the whole family. One thing I wanted to add is that you should also make sure your worker is using the most current income limits. The limits did increase at the beginning of 2025, so if your case was processed using old limits, you might want to ask for a redetermination. Also, if your income changes (like if you get a raise or your hours get cut), make sure to report it because it could affect whether you're excluded or not. It sounds like you're asking all the right questions though - definitely get that income calculation worksheet and double-check their math!

Thanks for mentioning the updated income limits! I didn't realize they increased in 2025 - that's definitely something I should check on. My case was processed in late 2024 so they might have used the old limits. I'll ask my worker about getting a redetermination with the new limits to see if that changes anything. And you're absolutely right about reporting income changes - I actually just found out I might be getting a small raise soon, so I need to understand how that could affect our situation. This whole thread has been so educational!

I'm new to this community but this discussion has been incredibly helpful! I'm currently going through the CalWORKs application process and was totally confused when my caseworker mentioned something about "assistance units" and excluding family members. Reading everyone's experiences here makes so much more sense than the brief explanation I got at the office. I wanted to ask - for those who have been through this excluded member situation, how long did it take for your benefits to actually start once they figured out the correct calculation? My worker said it could take a few weeks but I'm hoping it's faster than that since we really need the help. Also, does anyone know if being excluded from CalWORKs affects eligibility for emergency assistance programs? We might need help with utilities while we're waiting for the regular benefits to kick in. Thanks to everyone who shared their stories and advice - this community is amazing for getting real information that actually makes sense!
