Has anyone had success appealing their benefit amount calculation? I think Washington ESD might have made an error with my wages but I'm not sure if it's worth the hassle to appeal.
If you can't get through to them by phone, you might want to try Claimyr to connect with an agent who can review your account.
This thread has been super helpful! I was dreading trying to figure out how much I'd get on unemployment but now I feel like I understand the system better.
Bottom line - most disqualifications come from: voluntary quit without good cause, misconduct, refusing suitable work, not meeting work search requirements, not being able/available to work, or fraud. Stay honest and follow the rules and you should be fine.
Remember that even if you're disqualified initially, circumstances can change. If you were disqualified for not being available but your situation changes, you can often reopen your claim.
UNEMPLOYMENT PAY IS A JOKE! I worked for 15 years and when I finally need help, they want to give me $300 a week. How is that supposed to cover a mortgage and bills? The system is broken!
Just want to add that unemployment pay can be affected if you do any part-time work while collecting benefits. You have to report all earnings and they'll reduce your weekly benefit accordingly.
Has anyone used that Claimyr service that was mentioned earlier? I'm curious if it actually works for getting through to Washington ESD.
This thread has been really helpful! I didn't realize how the base period worked. Thanks everyone for explaining it clearly.

good luck with everything! the first time filing can feel overwhelming but once you get into the routine of weekly claims its pretty straightforward. most people have no major issues with the process

•Feel free to come back and ask questions if you run into any issues during the process. This community is pretty good about helping each other out.

One last thing - if you're eligible for benefits, your weekly benefit amount will be based on your earnings during your base period (usually the first 4 of the last 5 completed calendar quarters). Higher earnings generally mean higher weekly benefits, up to the state maximum.

•That makes sense. I was making decent money at my last job so hopefully that helps with the benefit amount.
