Update us when you file! Always curious to hear how the process goes for people in similar situations.
If you're eligible, don't wait to file your claim. Benefits are only paid from the date you file, not from when you actually became unemployed. I waited a week thinking I might find a job quickly and lost out on that week's benefits.
Good point! I was thinking about waiting a bit to see if I could find something quickly, but I guess there's no benefit to waiting.
The whole process seemed overwhelming at first, but once I got started it wasn't too bad. The hardest part was getting through to someone at Washington ESD when I had questions, but services like Claimyr really help with that. Just take it one step at a time and don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it.
Bottom line - file your initial claim with Washington ESD, do your weekly certifications, meet your job search requirements, and you're getting the benefits that FUTA taxes fund. Don't overthink it beyond that.
File as soon as possible after your last day of work. There's a waiting week before payments start, so every day you delay is money lost. The application itself is maybe 30 minutes if you're prepared.
Budget about an hour total including gathering documents and double-checking everything. The website can be slow but if you have all your info ready, it goes pretty smoothly. Don't forget to print or save a copy of your confirmation.

Just wanted to say thanks for asking this question OP. I'm in the same boat and all these answers are really helpful. Nice to know I'm not alone in this stress!

•Glad I could help! It's definitely less scary knowing other people understand what we're going through.

One last thing - if you do end up needing to contact Washington ESD and can't get through, that Claimyr service I mentioned earlier really does work. I was skeptical at first but it beat spending hours on hold. Just something to keep in mind if you run into roadblocks.
