Just to summarize what everyone said: 2-4 business days is typical for first payment, make sure your bank info is correct, and don't panic if it takes the full week. You should see your money soon!
One last tip - if you do need to contact Washington ESD for any reason, that Claimyr service I mentioned earlier really does work well. Saved me hours of calling and getting nowhere.
One last thing - set up direct deposit if you can. Paper checks take forever to arrive and can get lost in the mail. Much easier to have the money go straight to your bank account.
Seriously though, if you run into problems getting through to Washington ESD on the phone, that Claimyr thing is worth checking out. I was skeptical at first but it actually worked for me when I needed to talk to someone about my pending adjudication.
Thanks everyone for explaining this! I was literally losing sleep thinking my old boss would have to pay my benefits directly. Knowing it comes from the insurance fund they already paid into makes me feel so much better about filing.
One last thing to remember - even if your employer contests your claim, Washington ESD makes the final decision based on the facts and state law. The employer's preference doesn't automatically disqualify you from benefits you're entitled to receive.

Quick question - does anyone know if having an overpayment affects your ability to file for unemployment in the future? Like if I lose my job again next year?

•Generally no, as long as you're working with them on resolving it. If you completely ignore it and they determine it was fraud, that's different. But regular overpayments usually don't prevent future claims.

•That's a relief. I was worried about that too.

Bottom line advice: 1) Appeal if you're unsure 2) Get the detailed explanation 3) Set up a payment plan if you do owe money 4) Don't ignore it. The system has issues but they're usually workable if you engage with the process.

•Thank you everyone for all the advice. I feel much more confident about handling this now. Going to start with filing an appeal and see what happens.
