Just remember to keep filing your weekly claims continuously and maintain your job search activities. The transition between benefit years should be seamless if you do everything right.
yeah continuity is key. don't let there be any gaps in your filing
Hope this thread helps other people too. The unemployment system is confusing enough without having to figure everything out alone.
Definitely. Sharing experiences and knowledge makes it easier for everyone.
For anyone still reading this - yes it's Wednesday, yes it's consistent, and yes you'll get used to the routine. Been on UI for 8 months now and Wednesday deposit is as reliable as clockwork.
8 months?? Hope your job search goes better soon
Thanks, the market is tough but I'm staying positive. At least the unemployment payments are reliable!
Update: Just wanted to thank everyone for the help! My payment showed up this morning (Wednesday) just like you all said it would. Feel much better knowing what to expect going forward.
welcome to the wednesday club! 🎉
Nice! Always good to hear success stories, makes the rest of us feel better about the system
Just to be clear for anyone reading this - you can appeal Washington ESD decisions for reasons like: wrong separation reason reported by employer, employer retaliation, constructive dismissal (forced to quit), medical issues that prevented work, domestic violence situations, or if you quit for good cause. The key is having documentation.
Update us on how your appeal goes! I think with that budget cut email evidence you should have a strong case. Washington ESD appeals are intimidating but they're there to protect workers from exactly this kind of employer misreporting.
Just remember that even if your claim gets approved, it might take a few weeks for the first payment to come through. Plan accordingly and don't expect money immediately.
Usually 1-2 weeks after your first weekly claim certification is processed
One last thing - keep copies of everything. Your termination paperwork, any emails about the safety complaint, your unemployment application, everything. You never know what you might need later if there are complications.

Just want to add that the unemployment definition can get tricky with contract work or gig economy jobs. Washington ESD has specific rules for those situations too.

•Yeah, I do some freelance work on the side. Does that affect my unemployment status?

•You'll need to report all earnings, but it doesn't necessarily disqualify you from partial benefits as long as you're still seeking regular employment.

Thanks everyone for all the explanations. I feel much more confident about filing my claim now. The Washington ESD definition seemed scary at first but it's actually pretty straightforward once you break it down.
