Has anyone dealt with Washington ESD audits of their unemployment tax filings? I'm paranoid about making mistakes.
The whole experience rating system seems like it could be gamed by larger companies with more resources to contest claims.
The whole system seems designed to be as confusing as possible. I've been trying to understand my eligibility for weeks and still have questions about my specific situation.
Same here! I ended up using that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier and finally got answers from an actual Washington ESD representative. Worth checking out if you're as frustrated as I was.
One more thing to consider - make sure you're meeting all the job search requirements even if you're getting the maximum benefit. Washington ESD requires 3 job search activities per week regardless of your benefit amount.
One last thing - make sure you understand the difference between 'able and available' and 'actively seeking work.' You have to be both to qualify for benefits each week. Able and available means you're physically and mentally capable of working and available to accept work. The job search requirement is separate from that.
This thread has been super helpful for me too. I'm bookmarking it in case I need to reference it later. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences!
Remember that your benefits will be deposited either by direct deposit or on a debit card. Direct deposit is faster - usually get payments within 1-2 business days instead of waiting for a card to arrive in the mail.
Just went through this whole process myself. The key thing is to be patient with the system but persistent about getting answers. If you run into issues, don't just sit there wondering - find a way to get through to someone who can help. Whether that's calling early in the morning, using one of those callback services, or whatever it takes.
Thanks for all the advice everyone. This gives me a much better idea of what to expect. Sounds like I should be able to get enough to cover my basic expenses while I look for something new.

For anyone still confused about Washington ESD processes, I had good luck getting clarification through that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier. Really helped me understand the timeline and requirements without spending all day on hold.

•I might have to try that. I've been trying to reach Washington ESD for a week with no success.

•It's worth it just for the peace of mind. Being able to actually talk to someone who can answer your questions makes such a difference.

Bottom line: the waiting week is a pain but it's standard in Washington. File your weekly claim, do your job search, and your first payment should come the following week. Don't let it stress you out too much - it's just how the system works.
