I wish Washington ESD made this information clearer on their website. It shouldn't take a forum discussion to understand basic eligibility requirements.
At least there are resources like this forum and services like Claimyr to help people navigate the system when the official resources aren't clear enough.
Final thoughts: if you think you might qualify, just apply. The worst they can say is no, and then you'll know for sure. Washington ESD will review your wage history and make the determination.
This whole thread makes me grateful my claim has been straightforward so far, but now I'm worried this could happen to anyone at any time.
Final update: I used Claimyr like several people suggested and got connected to a Washington ESD agent in about 20 minutes. She found the error immediately - somehow my account was flagged as having unreported income when I've been unemployed the whole time. She fixed it on the spot and said I'll get all the missing money in my next payment. Cannot believe how simple the fix was once I actually talked to someone who knew what they were doing!
This gives me hope for my situation. Going to try Claimyr today.
Make sure you keep track of all your employers and dates of employment. You'll need that information when you file your claim, and it helps to have it organized ahead of time.
honestly the whole unemployment system is a nightmare to navigate but if you need it its there. sounds like you should qualify based on what others have said about the requirements
To summarize for the OP: 2-3 weeks is typical for straightforward layoff cases. Keep filing weekly claims. If you hit 3-4 weeks with no word, try to contact Washington ESD. Document everything. The waiting is stressful but normal. Once approved, payments are consistent.

just remember that washington esd and federal unemployment tax are completely separate systems. you'll deal with washington esd quarterly and irs annually (unless you hit the $500 threshold

•Got it, thanks for the summary. Helps to have it spelled out clearly.

•That's a good way to think about it - separate systems with different schedules and requirements.

One more thing - if you're incorporated, make sure you're not paying FUTA on yourself if you're the owner. Different rules apply for corporate officers vs regular employees.

•I'm an LLC, does that change anything?

•LLC members typically aren't subject to unemployment taxes on their own earnings. But check with a tax professional to be sure.
