This whole thread is really eye-opening. I had no idea the unemployment system was so complicated when it comes to different types of job separation.
Actually, I just remembered - if you ever need to speak with Washington ESD directly about payment issues or questions, that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier really does work. I was skeptical at first but it saved me from spending half a day trying to get through their phone system.
Welcome to the weekly unemployment routine! It becomes second nature pretty quickly. File your claim, wait for payment, repeat. Just don't let the job search requirement slide - that's usually what trips people up.
One more thing - make sure you understand your company's severance policy. Sometimes refusing relocation triggers different terms than a regular layoff.
Bottom line: Seattle to Spokane is clearly unreasonable. Document everything, file when your employment ends, and be prepared to explain your situation during adjudication. You should be fine.
clothing expenses dropped to zero for me, I stopped buying anything new and just made do with what I had
The good news is that once you find work again, you'll probably have developed better spending habits. I became much more conscious of my money after my unemployment period ended.

This thread has been really informative. I was fired 6 months ago and was too embarrassed to apply for unemployment because I thought being fired automatically disqualified you. Wish I had known this information sooner!

•It's a common misconception. Many people who were fired are eligible for benefits. You can still apply now, though you'll only be able to claim benefits going forward, not retroactively.

Final update: Got my determination letter today and I was approved! The adjudication took exactly 3 weeks like some of you said it would. My first payment should be processed within a few days. Thanks everyone for the advice and encouragement!
