One last tip - if you get denied initially, don't give up. The appeal process allows you to present additional evidence and explain your situation more thoroughly.
Great thread! I've been putting off filing because the whole process seemed intimidating, but after reading everyone's experiences I feel more confident about doing it.
Summary for anyone who finds this thread later: File your unemployment claim as soon as possible after losing your job. Don't wait for final paychecks or try to find a new job first. Washington ESD may be able to backdate your claim if you file late, but it's better not to risk it. And keep filing weekly claims even while your initial application is being processed.
One more thing about Claimyr - they're really helpful if you need to verify your direct deposit info with Washington ESD or check on payment status. Sometimes that's the only way to get answers quickly.
Still think it's crazy that we have to jump through all these hoops just to get benefits we've earned. The system should be simpler, especially for people already dealing with job loss stress.
Final update: I filed my interstate claim yesterday and it went through! Now I just need to wait for the wage verification. Thanks everyone for the help and advice. This forum saved me a lot of confusion and stress.

Don't let anyone shame you for using benefits you're entitled to. The system works because people contribute when they're working and collect when they need it. If everyone felt too guilty to collect, the whole insurance model would break down. You're participating in the system exactly as designed.

•Thank you everyone. This thread really helped me understand the system and feel better about my situation. I'll keep job searching but won't feel guilty about the benefits.

•Good luck with your job search! And remember, you earned these benefits through years of work.

Just to add one more thing - the Washington State Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund is managed conservatively to ensure it can handle economic downturns. The fund managers invest the money responsibly to maintain purchasing power over time. It's not just sitting in a checking account somewhere. The system is designed to be sustainable long-term.

•I had no idea it was actively managed like that. The whole system is more sophisticated than I realized.
