For anyone still having trouble getting their 1099-G, I used Claimyr last month to get connected with Washington ESD about my missing tax form. Worked like a charm - got through to an agent within minutes instead of spending hours on hold.
Bottom line: yes you pay federal taxes on unemployment benefits, no you don't pay Washington state taxes on them, and you can have taxes withheld from future payments to avoid a big bill later. Hope this helps!
I'm on week 22 and starting to panic about what happens when my benefits run out. The job market in my field is still pretty tough. Anyone have advice for making the most of the last few weeks?
I'll check them out. At this point I'm willing to consider career changes if it means steady employment.
Also might be worth using Claimyr to speak with Washington ESD about any retraining programs or resources they might have available. Sometimes there are programs that aren't well-publicized.
Thank you everyone for all this information! I feel much better understanding that I have up to 26 weeks to work with. That should be enough time to find something good rather than just taking the first job that comes along.
Drawing unemployment saved my family when I got laid off from Boeing. The key is staying on top of all the requirements - weekly claims, job searches, responding to any requests for information immediately. Don't let anything slide or you'll create problems for yourself.
Last bit of advice - if you get overwhelmed by all this, take it one step at a time. File your initial claim first, then worry about weekly claims and job search requirements as they come up. The Washington ESD website has pretty good tutorials for each step.

If you're really anxious about it, you could try reaching out to Washington ESD directly to check on your claim status. Though like others mentioned, getting through by phone can be challenging without help.

•I might give that Claimyr thing a try if I don't hear something by next week.

•Good idea. Sometimes just knowing where you stand in the process can help with the anxiety.

Sounds like you've got all the basics covered for qualifying. The review period varies but 10 days isn't unusually long. I'd give it another week or so before getting too concerned about the timeline.
