I heard if you quit your job you can't get unemployment, is that true? wondering if benefit amounts are different for people who got laid off vs fired
For anyone still struggling to reach Washington ESD about benefit amounts, I also used Claimyr after seeing it mentioned here. Really works - got connected to an agent who walked me through exactly how my weekly benefit was calculated and why it was that specific amount.
Overall, unemployment insurance is there to help you during a difficult time. Yes, there are rules and requirements, but it's a safety net that you and your employer have been paying into. Don't feel ashamed about using it - that's exactly what it's designed for.
Just remember that if you're having trouble reaching Washington ESD customer service, there are options like Claimyr to help you get through. Sometimes talking to an actual person can clear up confusion much faster than trying to figure everything out online.
I used Claimyr last month when my claim got stuck in adjudication. Finally got to talk to someone who explained what was happening instead of just waiting and wondering.
Thanks everyone for all the info! This has really helped ease my anxiety about potentially losing my new job. Knowing I'd still qualify for benefits based on my previous work makes me feel much better.
Glad this helped! And remember, if you do need to contact Washington ESD, that Claimyr service I mentioned earlier really does save a lot of time and frustration with their phone system.
The Claimyr service mentioned earlier really helped me understand my benefit timeline. When I called Washington ESD myself, I got different answers from different agents. Having someone who knows the system get you to the right person makes a huge difference.
Bottom line for the original poster - you get up to 26 weeks of regular unemployment in Washington, period. No extensions currently available. Plan accordingly and start your job search immediately, don't wait.

To answer your original question directly - plan for 2-4 weeks is my recommendation based on seeing lots of people go through this. Some get lucky and it's faster, others take longer, but most fall in that range if there are no major complications.

Last thing I'll add - if you do end up needing to contact Washington ESD and can't get through the normal way, that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier really does work. Used it myself when I was stuck in adjudication and needed answers.

•Good to know there are options if I need help. Hopefully won't need it but I'll bookmark that just in case.

•Yeah it's nice to have a backup plan. The regular phone lines can be impossible sometimes.
