MAKE SURE you understand the difference between voluntary and involuntary job separation for your project. Washington ESD is very strict about this distinction when determining benefit eligibility.
Thanks everyone for all this info! I feel much more confident about handling the unemployment income on my tax return now.
For anyone still struggling to get their 1099-G from Washington ESD, I finally got through using that Claimyr service someone mentioned. Took about 15 minutes and the agent was able to email me a copy of my form right away. Worth it just to avoid the phone hassle.
I ended up trying Claimyr too and it worked great! So much easier than trying to call Washington ESD directly.
The application timelines are totally different too. You can apply for unemployment online and potentially start receiving benefits within 2-3 weeks. SSI applications take months just for the initial decision, and most people get denied the first time.
One last thing - if you're confused about ANY part of your unemployment claim, definitely get help rather than guessing. Wrong information can mess up your benefits. I used that Claimyr service when I had questions about my weekly claims and it was super helpful.
One more thing - make sure you have all your severance documentation ready when you file. Washington ESD will want specifics about amounts and timeframes.
This has been incredibly helpful! Feel much more confident about navigating this process now. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences.

For anyone planning their finances around unemployment: remember that benefits are taxable income. You might want to have taxes withheld or set aside money for tax season. Don't get caught off guard next April!

•Good point! You can elect to have 10% withheld for federal taxes when you file your weekly claims.

The bottom line: standard unemployment in Washington is up to 26 weeks, but your individual situation determines the exact duration. Check your monetary determination, keep filing weekly claims, do your job searches, and don't count on extensions. Plan to be back to work before your benefits run out!
