Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. Today my call dropped because of EDD and Claimyr heard my concern on the same chat and another call was made within the hour.

Pro tip: when Washington ESD calls you for the separation interview, answer the phone! They usually only try a few times before making a decision based on available information. If you miss the call, call back immediately.
They usually call from a 360 area code number and may leave a voicemail. Check your SecureAccess Washington account too - they send messages there.
I missed their call once and it delayed my case by another 2 weeks. Don't make my mistake!
Final update from me: Got approved! Washington ESD determined that performance issues without willful misconduct don't disqualify you from benefits. Took exactly 3 weeks from filing to approval. Thanks everyone for the encouragement and advice.

Make sure your unemployment benefits aren't set to expire soon. Lenders want to see that you'll have income for the duration of the loan.
I should have about 20 more weeks of benefits left, assuming I don't find a job before then. Hopefully that's enough time.
That should be plenty. Most car loans are 3-5 years anyway, so they're not expecting your unemployment to last that long.
One last tip - if you get approved, set up automatic payments from your checking account. It shows the lender you're responsible and you might even get a small interest rate discount.
Good idea! I already have my unemployment benefits on direct deposit so adding another automatic payment shouldn't be a problem.
Just make sure the payment date aligns with when you get your unemployment deposit so you don't overdraft.

The whole Washington ESD system needs an overhaul. It's 2025 and we're still dealing with account numbers that nobody can find?? Come on!
Agree 100%. Other states have much better online systems.
At least it's better than it used to be before they updated the website a few years ago.

Just to add - if there ever are federal extensions or special programs in the future, Washington ESD will automatically determine if you qualify. You won't need to file separate applications.
That's really helpful to know for the future.

Make sure you understand the waiting week too. You don't get paid for your first week of unemployment in Washington. So even if you qualify for benefits, your first payment won't come until week 2.

Last tip - set up direct deposit if you can. Paper checks take forever and sometimes get lost in the mail. Direct deposit hits your account within 1-2 business days of processing.
