I think the key is proving you had no reasonable alternative to quitting. If your employer couldn't accommodate your family care needs and you couldn't afford unpaid leave, that might constitute good cause. Document everything!
Update us after you file and let us know what happens! Your situation might help other people in similar circumstances understand their options.
if you end up having trouble with your claim or need to talk to washington esd about your benefit amount, that claimyr thing really does work. i was skeptical at first but it saved me so much time and frustration
Bottom line - file as soon as you can, be patient waiting for your determination letter, and make sure you understand the job search requirements. The benefit amount will be what it is based on your work history.
Another option if you're running out of benefits is to see if you qualify for a new claim if you've worked since your original filing. Sometimes people can establish a new benefit year.
The whole 26 week thing stressed me out until I actually started job hunting seriously. Found work in week 16, so the time limit ended up being plenty. Stay positive and persistent!
Just wanted to add that if you're denied initially, you can always appeal the decision. Sometimes they make mistakes or don't have complete information about your work history.
My advice is to apply as soon as possible after becoming unemployed. Even if there are issues with your eligibility, the sooner you file, the sooner they can be resolved. Benefits are typically paid from the date you first file, not from when your claim is approved.

Just want to mention that if you're unsure about whether you qualify, it doesn't hurt to apply anyway. Let Washington ESD make the determination rather than assuming you don't qualify. The worst they can say is no, but you might be surprised.

•That's a good point. I was worried about applying if I might not qualify but I guess there's no harm in trying.

•Exactly! I thought I wouldn't qualify due to some complicated job situation but ended up being eligible. You never know until you apply.

One last thing - make sure you understand the difference between regular unemployment and other programs. There used to be pandemic programs but those ended. Now it's just regular UI benefits for most people.

•Good to know. I was wondering about that since I heard about different programs during COVID.

•Yeah all the pandemic stuff like PUA and PEUC ended a while ago. Now it's back to the regular state unemployment program.
