While your neighbor's situation is unfortunate, I want to clarify that taking temporary work while claiming benefits is actually allowed in PA. You can work part-time and still receive partial benefits as long as you report your earnings accurately. This is called partial benefit week reporting, and it can actually help maintain your claim while continuing to search for suitable employment in your field.
UPDATE: I used some of the advice here and we FINALLY have progress! We tried calling right at 7:30am for three days in a row with no luck. We were about to try the Claimyr service when I had my son email the UC office with "DIRECTOR REVIEW REQUEST - 16 WEEKS NO PAYMENT" in the subject line and included all his info. We got a call back today from a supervisor who said his claim got stuck in some weird loop where it was marked as "pending wage verification" but no one was actually reviewing it. She fixed it on the spot and said he should receive all back payments within 3-5 business days. I'm cautiously optimistic but at least we finally talked to someone who could help! Thank you all for your suggestions!
This is excellent news! The subject line strategy can be very effective. "Pending wage verification" is unfortunately a common hold status that can sometimes get overlooked in their workflow. Make sure your son keeps an eye on his payment status through the dashboard, and if the funds don't arrive within the 3-5 business days, he should follow up directly with that supervisor (hopefully you got their name and ID number). Congratulations on the breakthrough!
I had same problem last year when I got laid off my job at the warehouse. Couldn't get nobody to pick up the phone for 3 weeks!!! My cousin told me to just go to the CareerLink office in person. They can't help directly with claims but the lady there helped me write an email to some special address they have for urgent cases. Got a call back the next day from UC.
Just wanted to check back - were you able to get through to someone? Did any of these suggestions help?
Update: I ended up using that Claimyr service someone mentioned, and it worked! Got through to an agent after about 45 minutes. Turns out my open issue was just that they needed to verify my identity again because I logged in from a new device. So simple, but impossible to know without talking to someone. My claim should be processed this week! Thanks everyone for all your suggestions!
Just a heads up - I just checked the PA UC Facebook page and they posted that they're aware of the website issues and are working on them. They said to try again after midnight tonight when they complete the system maintenance.
UPDATE: I was finally able to get through at 11:30pm last night! The site was still slow but at least it didn't freeze completely. Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions. For anyone else having this problem, definitely try late at night when there's less traffic.
Update: My card finally arrived today! For anyone else waiting, it came in a very plain white envelope that almost looked like junk mail, so check your mail carefully. The activation process wasn't too bad - took about 10 minutes on the phone. All my pending payments were already loaded on the card, which was a relief.
congrats! still waiting on mine... did u have to do anything special to get ur payments to transfer? or did they just show up automatically?
My nephew got his last week but I'm still waiting on mine. Does anybody know if we can still use the old cards until the new ones arrive? I have about $340 on my old card I need to access.

•I actually have an update! I used Claimyr to get through to someone yesterday (after failing with regular phone calls again). The agent I spoke with found my claim and said it had been misclassified in their system, which is why it sat untouched for so long. She reclassified it and escalated it for immediate review. She said I should hear something within 5-7 business days. I'm cautiously optimistic but at least it's movement after 37 weeks of nothing! I'll update again when I hear more.

That's great news! Misclassification happens more often than they'd like to admit. Make sure to follow up if you don't hear anything within that timeframe. Also, you should be eligible for back payments for all those weeks if your claim is approved. Make sure they specifically address that when they process your claim.

•Thank you! Yes, the agent mentioned I'd be eligible for all back payments if approved. She actually seemed shocked that my claim had been sitting for 37 weeks. I'm going to be watching my dashboard like a hawk for the next week. Fingers crossed!
