If you're having trouble getting through to check on your claim status, I had success using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to connect with an actual NYS Department of Labor agent. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Much easier than trying to call the regular number and getting hung up on.
The 10 day thing is misleading because employers can also contest your claim even after responding initially. Had mine dragged out for 6 weeks because my employer kept submitting additional 'evidence' about my termination. NYS Department of Labor has to review everything they send.
I've been trying to get through to NYS Department of Labor for weeks about my claim status and it's impossible! The phone lines are always busy and when I do get through I get disconnected. Has anyone found a way to actually talk to someone there?
I had the same problem until someone told me about claimyr.com - they help you get through to NYS Department of Labor agents. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Saved me hours of calling and getting hung up on.
The NYS Department of Labor system is so slow compared to other states. My friend in Florida got her first check in 10 days. Here it's like they want you to suffer while they take their sweet time processing everything.
One thing nobody told me when I started - if your claim goes into adjudication (which mine did for some random reason), it can take WEEKS to get resolved. Just be patient and keep filing your weekly claims even if you're not getting paid yet.

I had a similar situation last year and got so stressed about this! The NYS Department of Labor phone lines were impossible to get through to ask questions. I finally found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me actually talk to someone at NYS Department of Labor about my specific situation. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Made such a difference to get clear answers instead of guessing.

•How much does something like that cost though? Seems like we shouldn't have to pay extra just to talk to NYS Department of Labor about our own claims.

•I get the frustration but honestly it was worth it for the peace of mind. Way better than spending weeks calling and getting nowhere or making mistakes on my claims.

•I feel you! The my.ny.gov portal is not user-friendly at all. Just keep documenting everything and when in doubt, report it. Better safe than sorry with NYS Department of Labor.
