If you're having trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor to verify your benefit calculation, I had good luck using Claimyr (claimyr.com). They help you get connected to actual agents without waiting on hold forever. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Really helped when I needed to understand why my benefit amount seemed wrong.
The whole system is rigged anyway!!! They calculate it to give you as LITTLE as possible while making the rules so complicated nobody understands them. I've been fighting with NYS Department of Labor for months over my benefit amount and they keep giving me different explanations every time I call.
Also if you're getting severance pay or pension payments, that might affect your benefits. And working while claiming - even just a few hours - you have to report it or they'll hit you with an overpayment.
The system is so confusing though! I've been trying to get through to someone at NYS Department of Labor for weeks to ask about my specific situation but the phones are always busy. Does anyone know a better way to reach them? I'm worried I'm going to mess something up and get disqualified.
The system is totally rigged against working people anyway. They'll find any excuse to deny you benefits that you paid into through your taxes. I've seen people get disqualified for the most ridiculous technicalities.
OH NO this is exactly what I'm worried about happening to me! I just filed my first claim last week and now I'm panicking that payments are going to be unreliable. How am I supposed to budget if I can't count on when the money will actually arrive?? Did you guys have to do anything special with your bank or is this just random?

Wait, don't you have to be actively looking for work to get unemployment? I thought there were job search requirements you had to meet every week.

•Yes, you're required to make at least 3 job contacts per week and keep a record of your job search activities. You'll need to report this when you file your weekly claims. The NYS Department of Labor can audit your job search log, so keep detailed records of where you applied, when, and any responses you received.

good luck with the system, it's a bureaucratic nightmare!! took me 6 weeks to get my first payment because they kept asking for more documentation. make sure you have EVERYTHING ready when you apply or they'll just keep delaying your claim
