Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. The whole system is backwards anyway. Companies get to destroy people's livelihoods because of political decisions and we're left scrambling for crumbs from NYS Department of Labor. Been through this twice in my career and it never gets easier.

Wait I'm confused - do I report the gross amount or just what I actually received? Some weeks they took out child support so my actual deposit was less than the benefit amount.
Report the gross amount shown on your 1099-G. Any deductions for child support, overpayments, or other withholdings don't change the taxable amount for IRS purposes.

The whole situation in 1938 was basically caused by FDR trying to balance the budget too early and cutting New Deal spending. Plus there were major strikes in key industries. It shows how fragile economic recovery can be and why sustained support is important during unemployment crises.
