Final update: The back pay finally hit my account this morning! All 3 weeks at once. Such a relief. For anyone else dealing with this - being persistent and specifically asking for a hardship review with a Tier 2 specialist seemed to make the difference. Thanks everyone for your help!
Congratulations Gabriel! This gives me so much hope. I'm dealing with the exact same situation right now - been waiting 5 weeks for back pay that's stuck in "pending review." I'm definitely going to try calling and specifically asking for a Tier 2 specialist for a hardship review like you did. The waiting is so stressful when you're counting on that money. Thanks for sharing your experience and keeping us updated throughout the process!
The NYS Department of Labor system is such a mess. I've been waiting 4 months for my back pay and every time I call they give me a different excuse. First it was adjudication, then it was a system update, now they're saying there's some kind of verification issue. Meanwhile I'm about to lose my apartment because I can't pay rent!
I'm dealing with a similar situation right now - my claim was approved 10 days ago and I can see all my weekly certifications marked as "paid" in the system, but only received payment for one week. It's really concerning when you're counting on that back pay to catch up on essential expenses. From what I've read in other forums, sometimes there can be automated holds placed on accounts for various reasons even after approval. Have you tried logging into your NY.gov account to see if there are any pending issues or notifications that might explain the delay?
I checked my NY.gov account and don't see any pending issues or notifications - everything looks normal there. It's really frustrating because like you said, we're both counting on that back pay for essential expenses. Did you find anything in your account that might explain the delay? I'm wondering if I should just bite the bullet and try that Claimyr service Kevin mentioned to get through to someone who can actually see what's going on with my payments.
This is so frustrating! I've been having the exact same issue since yesterday evening. I'm in Rochester and the website has been completely inaccessible - just keeps throwing that "service temporarily unavailable" error no matter what I try. I'm supposed to certify today and really need to make sure my payment processes on time. Reading through all these comments, it sounds like this claimyr.com service might be the only reliable way to actually talk to someone when the system is down like this. Has anyone who used it recently been able to get confirmation about their certification status? I'm worried that even if I can't access the website, I still need to certify by the deadline or risk missing payments.
I'm dealing with the exact same certification deadline stress! From what I've read in other threads, you usually have a grace period of a few days even if the system is down during your normal certification window - they can't penalize you for system issues that are on their end. But definitely try to get through to an agent if possible to confirm. I'm probably going to try that claimyr service too since multiple people here are saying it actually works. This whole situation is such a mess though - you'd think they'd have better backup systems in place by now!
Ugh, this is so frustrating! I'm having the exact same issue - been locked out since this morning and really need to check if my weekly certification processed. My landlord is already breathing down my neck about rent and I can't even confirm if I'll have the money. After reading through all these comments, I'm definitely going to try that claimyr.com service that everyone keeps mentioning. It sounds like it's the only way to actually talk to a real person when their prehistoric system crashes like this. Thanks for posting this - at least I know it's not just me going crazy trying every browser and device in my house! 🤦♀️
I totally feel your stress about the rent situation - that's exactly where I was yesterday! After seeing all these recommendations, I actually just tried claimyr.com myself about an hour ago and honestly, it worked better than I expected. They got me connected to an agent who was able to confirm my certification went through even though the website still isn't working. Definitely worth trying if you're as desperate as I was - way better than spending another day hitting refresh on a broken website!
Same situation here - filed about 5 weeks ago and still nothing but "under review" every time I check. The worst part is not knowing if there's something I'm supposed to do or if it's just the system being slow. I've been calling every few days but can never get through. Starting to wonder if I filled something out wrong or if they need more documentation. Has anyone had luck with emailing them instead of calling? Getting really anxious about bills piling up while waiting for this to resolve.
I've been in the same boat for about 4 weeks now - the anxiety about bills is so real! I tried emailing through their online portal but haven't heard back yet (it's been like 2 weeks). From what I've read here, calling seems to be the only way to actually talk to someone, even though it's nearly impossible to get through. That claimyr service Katherine mentioned earlier sounds tempting at this point - $20 might be worth it if it actually works. Hang in there, we'll get through this eventually! 🤞
I'm in week 7 of waiting for my review to complete, so I totally feel your frustration! What's helped me stay (somewhat) sane is setting up a daily routine where I check my account first thing in the morning, then I don't look at it again for the rest of the day. The constant checking was driving me crazy and it never changes anyway. Also, if you haven't already, make sure you screenshot everything - your weekly certifications, any letters you've received, etc. I learned that the hard way when I couldn't find an old document I needed. Keep filing those weekly claims even though they show blank - I was told by someone who finally got through that those weeks will get backpaid once the review clears. Hoping we both hear something soon! 🤞
That screenshot advice is brilliant - I wish I'd thought of that earlier! I've definitely been guilty of the obsessive checking too. It's so hard not to when you're waiting for money you desperately need. The daily routine idea sounds like a good way to maintain some sanity while dealing with this nightmare system. Thanks for the tip about continuing to file weekly even when it shows blank - I was wondering about that! Hopefully your 7-week wait ends soon 🙏

Just went through this process myself earlier this year! A few additional tips that helped me: 1) Take screenshots of everything when you file - the website can be glitchy and you want proof of what you submitted 2) Create a dedicated email folder for all NYS Department of Labor correspondence so nothing gets lost 3) If you're laid off, ask your employer for a letter stating the reason for separation - this can help avoid adjudication delays 4) Don't panic if your first payment takes 2-3 weeks, that's normal processing time. The whole experience is stressful but thousands of people go through it successfully every week. You've got this!

•Thank you so much @48259063b1fa! Taking screenshots is such a smart idea - I never would have thought of that but it makes total sense given how important this stuff is. The email folder tip is great too, I'm definitely going to set that up. One more question if you don't mind - when you mention asking for a separation letter from your employer, should I do that right when I get laid off or wait until I'm actually filing the claim? I want to be prepared but don't want to seem like I'm jumping the gun.

•@c9b7ff0e446a I'd definitely ask for the separation letter right when you get laid off - there's nothing wrong with being prepared! Your employer will have all the details fresh in their mind, and it shows you're being proactive about the transition. Plus, if your HR department is anything like mine was, they'll probably appreciate that you're taking care of the paperwork early rather than calling them weeks later when they've moved on to other things. Just frame it as "I want to make sure I have all the documentation I need for unemployment filing" - most employers understand this is standard procedure after layoffs.

I went through this exact situation last year and understand how overwhelming it feels! One thing that really helped me was creating a simple calendar system to track everything - I marked my weekly claim filing days (I always did mine on Sundays), job search deadlines, and any important dates from NYS Department of Labor correspondence. Also, start gathering your employment documents now while you still have access to everything - pay stubs from the last 18 months, your W2s, and any employment contracts. The worst part is the waiting and uncertainty, but once you get into the routine of weekly claims and job searching, it becomes much more manageable. And remember, unemployment benefits are something you've earned through your previous work contributions - don't feel guilty about using a system you've paid into!
