Yes!! I tried the Claimyr service this morning and actually got through to someone in about 25 minutes! Turns out there was an issue with my identity verification that needed to be cleared. The agent fixed it while I was on the phone and said my payments should process within 3 business days. Such a relief! Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions!
So glad you were able to get through and resolve your issue! Identity verification problems seem to be really common right now - I've seen several people mention that in other posts. It's frustrating that such a simple fix can hold up payments for weeks, but at least you got it sorted out. Hopefully your payments come through quickly! Thanks for updating us on what worked - this thread will definitely help other people in the same situation.
This is such a helpful thread! I'm dealing with a similar situation right now - my claim has been stuck on "pending review" for about 2 weeks. Reading through everyone's experiences gives me hope that it's probably just a simple verification issue that can be fixed quickly once I get through to someone. I'm definitely going to try calling my assembly person's office first since that seems like it might be faster than waiting on hold for hours. Has anyone else had success with that route recently?
I went through this exact same situation last year and can totally relate to that panic! The good news is you're definitely not out of luck. When you log in this Sunday to do your regular certification, the system should automatically prompt you to certify for any missed weeks - it's usually pretty obvious, either right after you finish your current week or as a separate option on the main dashboard. You'll get both payments but the missed week will take a few extra days to process (usually 4-5 days vs the normal 2-3). For your electric bill situation, definitely call them today to explain - most utility companies have hardship programs or payment extensions specifically for people on unemployment. ConEd especially has been pretty understanding in my experience. Going forward, I'd recommend setting multiple phone alarms - I learned to do Saturday evening, Sunday morning, and a backup Sunday afternoon reminder after going through this stress myself. Missing certification once in 4 months definitely won't hurt your claim, but you don't want to make it a habit. You should be all set to get caught up this weekend!
Omar, this is incredibly helpful and detailed - thank you so much! I was really spiraling about this but your explanation makes it sound so much more manageable. I'm definitely calling ConEd today about payment options, that's such a smart suggestion I wouldn't have thought of on my own. The multiple alarm system is going on my phone right after I finish reading these responses - Saturday evening, Sunday morning, and Sunday afternoon backup sounds perfect. It's such a relief to know that missing once in 4 months won't hurt my claim status. Really appreciate you taking the time to walk through both the immediate solution and the prevention steps!
Don't stress too much about this! I missed my certification a couple months ago when I was dealing with a sick parent and completely forgot. When I logged in the following Sunday, there was a prominent "Certify for Previous Weeks" option right on the main page - super easy to find. I just answered all the usual questions for both the current week and the missed week. Got paid for both, though the missed week took about 4 days to hit my account instead of the usual 2-3. Definitely set up multiple reminders going forward - I now have alarms for Saturday night, Sunday morning, and Sunday afternoon just to be safe. The anxiety of thinking you lost benefits is terrible! Also smart call on reaching out to ConEd about payment arrangements - most utilities have programs for people on unemployment that can buy you some time. You should be totally fine to get caught up this weekend.
Just wanted to add that you should keep filing your weekly claims even while your initial claim is being processed. I made the mistake of waiting until my claim was approved and it delayed my payments by another week. The weekly claims are separate from your initial application status.
One thing that helped me was setting up text notifications through the portal. Go to your profile settings and enable SMS alerts - they'll text you when there are updates to your claim status or new messages. Also, if you're really stuck, try calling first thing in the morning right when they open at 8am. The wait times are usually shorter then. I finally got through after about 45 minutes on hold and the rep was actually really helpful in explaining what was happening with my claim.
One thing that tripped me up was that if you have multiple employers during the base period, NYS Department of Labor will count wages from ALL of them when calculating your benefits. You don't have to choose just one job - they look at your total wages from all covered employment.
You should list all your employers from the past 18 months when you file your claim. NYS Department of Labor will verify the wages with all of them.
@Ava Johnson Perfect, thank you! That makes sense about listing all employers from the past 18 months. I m'feeling much more confident about filing my claim now that I understand how the base period works and that both my jobs will count toward my benefits.
One more tip for @Giovanni Moretti - when you file your claim, make sure you have your W-2s or pay stubs from both jobs during your base period ready. NYS Department of Labor might ask for wage verification, and having those documents handy can speed up the process. Also, if you had any gaps in employment during the base period, that won't disqualify you as long as you meet the minimum wage requirements. The system is designed to help workers who have had multiple jobs or varying work schedules.
@Dylan Wright This is really helpful advice! I didn t'think about having my W-2s ready but that makes total sense. Since I had those two different jobs with varying hours, I was worried the gaps between them might be an issue, but it s'reassuring to know that won t'automatically disqualify me. Thanks for the tip about keeping documentation handy - I ll'make sure to gather everything from both employers before I file.

Is the 1099-G also available if you had a pending claim that was eventually denied? I had a complicated situation where I filed, received 2 payments, then they determined I wasn't eligible and I had to pay it back. Not sure if I'll get a form or if I need to report anything.

•Great question! If you repaid benefits in the same year you received them, your 1099-G should reflect only the net amount (if any). However, if you received payments in 2024 but repaid in 2025, you'll still get a 1099-G for the full amount received in 2024. In that case, you can claim the repayment as an itemized deduction or tax credit when you file your 2025 taxes next year. It's a bit complicated, so you might want to consult with a tax professional about your specific situation.

Just wanted to update - I noticed they've also added a feature where you can download ALL your previous years' 1099-G forms at once. Super helpful if you need to amend old returns or just want to keep your records organized!

•That's really good to know! Where exactly do you see that option? I can only find the current year when I log in.
