Guys, the NY unemployment system is a joke. I've been dealing with them for months. No matter what method they use to pay you, there's always some problem. Just this week they randomly stopped my direct deposit with no explanation. It's virtually impossible to reach them by phone unless you use one of those services that keeps calling for you (I used claimyr.com which actually worked). The whole system needs to be rebuilt from scratch.
Totally agree. I lost weeks of benefits because they randomly decided to "review" my case after 4 months of no problems. No warning, no explanation, just payments stopped.
Just an FYI - NY unemployment has a special backpay unit now that handles all claims from previous years. You need to specifically ask to be transferred to them when you call. Regular agents will just tell you it's too late because they don't know how to process these claims.
They're only available Mon-Thurs 9am-2pm from what I understand. And getting transferred to them is like winning the lottery 😂
This is where Claimyr really helped me - I was able to specify I needed the backpay department when I got connected. Made all the difference! claimyr.com saved me so much time.
the ny unemployment system is such a joke. first they take 2 months to approve benefits, then they send funds on these garbage cards that nobody knows how to use. im in ur same boat and ended up just using it for all my purchases and using my regular paycheck for rent.
This happened to me too! If you have a physical bank branch nearby, go in person with your ID and the card info. Tell them you need a cash advance against the card. I was able to get $2000 out that way (max daily limit) and just paid the $10 fee. Chase did it for me no problem even though I don't bank with them.
Typical NY unemployment nonsense. They make everything so complicated on purpose so people give up. I've been trying to deal with them since 2021 and its always some new problem.

The system is designed to deny benefits. That's why there's a waiting period in the first place. They know most people won't bother for short term issues. It's all about saving the state money. 😠

I actually called about a similar situation using claimyr.com after struggling to get through for days. The agent told me that while you won't get benefits for a 5-day quarantine due to the waiting period, there's a COVID sick leave law in NY that might help depending on your employer size. Worth looking into!

•Don't remember exactly but it was worth it to stop wasting hours on hold. Talking to an actual agent solved my issue in minutes after weeks of stress. Here's their link: claimyr.com
