I'm an IT guy who had to help my mom with ID.me last month. Here's my advice: 1. Use a computer, not a phone 2. Make sure your browser is updated (Chrome works best) 3. Clear your cookies/cache before starting 4. Use an ethernet connection if possible, not WiFi 5. Have all docs pre-scanned at high resolution 6. If you get stuck in the verification loop, completely log out, wait 24 hours, then try again with a different email address The system is poorly designed but eventually works if you're persistent. If all else fails, getting a human on the phone is your best bet. I've heard good things about claimyr.com for that part.
I found out that if you have an iPhone 8 or newer you can actually create a digital state ID in your Apple Wallet and use that for ID.me verification! Skips the whole document upload process. Wish someone had told me that before I spent days fighting with their system.
Just google "apple wallet digital ID setup" - only works in some states tho, NY is one of them
check ur messages in ur online account. sometimes they send a message there but dont email u about it 🙄 classic NYSDOL, making everything as confusing as possible
One thing nobody tells you: if you log into ID.me directly (not through the NYSDOL link) you can see your verification status. If it shows verified there but not in your unemployment account, that means NYSDOL hasn't processed it yet. That's when you need to get on the phone with them.
Just checked and ID.me shows I'm verified! So that means the holdup is definitely on NYSDOL's end. Thanks for this tip!
check ur spam folder. deadass they sent all my important emails there and i almost missed the deadline to submit docs.
In case nobody mentioned it yet, there's a separate email specifically for backlogged claims: [email protected] - it's not advertised but sometimes gets faster responses than the main channels.
Oh dang, maybe they shut it down. Try [email protected] instead. That one worked for my cousin recently.
Have you tried faxing them? I know it sounds ridiculous in 2023 but sometimes the old school methods work when everything else fails.

Did you check if you're eligible for any extensions? NY sometimes has extended benefits periods during times of high unemployment. You have to call them to find out though - the website is useless.

•I've been trying to call for days but can't get through. Always disconnects after the automated messages.

•try using claimyr.com - it's the only way I ever got through to an actual person at unemployment

When my benefits ran out last year I started doing odd jobs on TaskRabbit - furniture assembly, helping people move, etc. Made decent money and it was flexible enough that I could still go to interviews. Just an idea!
