Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. NY unemployment asking me to 'request additional funds' - agent filed paperwork for me but what happens next?

So I ran out of regular benefits in August after being on unemployment since February. Yesterday I finally got through to someone at the claims center after calling non-stop for three days. The rep told me I'm eligible to request additional funds and that she submitted the paperwork 'on my behalf' and told me to just 'continue certifying weekly.' I'm confused because I haven't received any confirmation email or anything in my account inbox. Has anyone gone through this process before? She said it could take anywhere from 2-4 weeks for processing but I'm stressing out because rent is due soon and I literally have $215 left in my account. I'm also worried because I heard some people have to do interviews? But the agent didn't mention anything about that to me. The whole thing seemed suspiciously easy after how hard it was to even get someone on the phone. Should I be doing anything else while I wait?

make SURE you're completing your work search requirements while you wait!! they can use that as a reason to deny your extension if audited later!

What happens when my husband's NY unemployment ends next week? Restaurant jobs still scarce

My husband has been out of work for about 14 months now. He's been applying for jobs constantly - at least 3-4 applications every single day. He's worked in restaurants his whole life (mostly as a line cook) and that industry is still struggling where we live. His unemployment benefits are supposed to end next week and we're starting to panic. He's had a few interviews but nothing has panned out yet. Does anyone know what happens after his benefits run out? Is there any way to extend them or apply for something else? Or is he just completely cut off? We've been barely making ends meet with the current benefits and I'm worried about how we're going to pay rent next month. The job market for restaurant workers here is still terrible even though places claim they're hiring. They either don't call back or only offer like 10 hours a week which isn't enough. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. We're getting desperate.

Dont forget that NY has the 599 program where you can keep your benefits while taking approved training courses. Might be worth looking into if he wants to learn a new skill while job hunting. You need to apply for it though.

Here's the link: https://dol.ny.gov/599-program - but you need to talk to a rep to actually get approved for it. It's one of those hidden benefits they don't advertise much.

Your husband should check if he qualifies for the 13-week Extended Benefits program in NY. Not everyone is eligible but worth checking. You HAVE to call and talk to a rep to find out though, which is a nightmare unless you use a service like claimyr to get through.

NY unemployment ID.me verification hell - just trying to update bank info

Been battling with the ID.me verification system for days now. Last week I spent almost 4 hours trying to submit my verification documents because the system kept rejecting my driver's license for no apparent reason. Finally got it to accept everything and it showed as submitted. Then today I get a message saying I need to complete the verification process again even though it was already submitted! All I'm trying to do is change my banking information on my ny unemployment account. Now I've had to resubmit all my ID.me verification documents again. The whole process is ridiculous when all I want to do is update where my payments go. Anyone else dealing with this ID.me nightmare?

just went through this last week! the trick is to use a desktop instead of phone, and make sure your camera is super good quality. also when taking pics of ID hold it against a WHITE background (not dark) and make sure theres good lighting. worked for me first try after doing all that.

I literally couldn't change my bank info for THREE MONTHS because of the ID.me nonsense. Finally got through on the phone after using claimyr.com (which btw was a lifesaver) and the agent told me there was a note on my account saying I'd already been verified! The whole time I was stressing and resubmitting docs they already had everything they needed 🤬 The system is beyond broken.

Need help getting my friend's documents to NY unemployment without social media

My roommate has been trying to finalize her unemployment claim since April but keeps hitting roadblocks because she doesn't use any social media accounts. Has she tried emailing them at the claims support email? Takes forever to get a response (like 5-7 days) but they eventually did help me submit docs when the portal wasn't working.

NY unemployment keeps giving contradictory information about my claim after severance ended

I'm losing my mind dealing with the unemployment office. They owe me for all of April but nobody gives me the same answer twice. When I was laid off in February, I started my claim while still receiving severance. An agent told me they created a separate claim specifically for April after my severance ended. I confirmed this with them and they assured me the money would come. Now I called back yesterday and this new person is saying that conversation never happened, those certified weeks don't exist, and my only option is to send messages through their useless portal that nobody responds to. I've called 8 times now and gotten 8 different answers. This is ridiculous - I'm starting to think they're just hoping I'll give up and go away. Anyone else dealt with this kind of runaround from NY unemployment?

Random but I was at my absolute breaking point with NY unemployment (similar situation - kept getting different answers) until I found a way to skip the hold time using claimyr.com. I had something similar w/ them owing me for February. What finally worked: call exactly at 7:58am (right before they open), navigate the menu slowly so you hit the final option right as the clock strikes 8:00. I got through to a senior agent who fixed everything in 10 min.
