Quick question - does anyone know if amending your 2023 return affects the processing of your 2024 refund? I'm in a similar situation as OP and wondering if that might be why my 2024 refund is taking so long.
From what I understand, they're processed separately. But if your 2023 amendment results in you owing money, they might apply your 2024 refund to that debt. Not 100% sure tho, maybe someone else can confirm?
lmao imagine thinking the irs would ever make anything easy for us 𤔠we're all just clowns in their circus

am i the only 1 who thinks its crazy we have to jump through all these hoops? like, they already have all our info. why make it so complicated? š¤
It's to prevent fraud, but yeah, they could definitely streamline the process
Ugh, I feel your pain OP. I'm in the same boat rn. Been trying to get this sorted for weeks. The IRS is seriously understaffed and overworked. Patience is key... but it suuuucks š«
Quick question - are you sure it's actually from the IRS? There are a lot of scams out there. Make sure the letter is legit before you do anything else.
Check the IRS website, they have examples of their official letters. Also, legit IRS letters always come through USPS, never email. And they'll never ask for personal info over the phone or email.
Ive been in the same boat, OP. Took me weeks to finally get my identity verified. Just keep at it and don't give up. You'll get there eventually!
Has anyone tried using the IRS's online identity verification system? I heard they rolled out something new recently but idk if it actually works
I tried it but got stuck halfway through. Ended up having to call anyway š

Just a heads up, changing your address with the IRS doesn't automatically update it for other gov agencies. Make sure you also update with Social Security, your state tax agency, etc.

idk if this helps but I found some good info on the taxpayer advocate service website. they have guides for stuff like this and can sometimes help if you run into issues with the IRS

ā¢The Taxpayer Advocate Service is legit. They helped me resolve an issue last year when I couldn't get anywhere with the regular IRS channels.
