Here's what worked for me: 1. Call early in the morning 2. Use the Spanish option (even if you don't speak Spanish) 3. When you get a person, politely ask to be transferred to English-speaking support 4. Be super nice to everyone you talk to It took a few tries, but I finally got through this way. Good luck!
Anyone else notice how they can take our money instantly but when it comes to giving it back, suddenly everything moves at a snail's pace? ππΈ
Has anyone tried negotiating the amount they owe? I've heard you can sometimes get it reduced.
That's called an Offer in Compromise. It's a whole different process and pretty complicated. Might want to talk to a tax professional about that one.
Ah gotcha, thanks for the info! Might look into that if the payment plan doesn't work out.
PSA: Watch out for scammers claiming to be from the IRS! They'll never call you out of the blue demanding payment.
Quick question - did they give you any timeframe for when you'll actually get your refund after sorting out the verification?
Anyone else feel like the IRS is stuck in the stone age? How hard is it to modernize their systems? π¦
For real! It's like they're allergic to efficiency π

I had to verify my ID last year and it was a nightmare. Took me 3 months to finally get it sorted. Hang in there OP, you'll get through it eventually!

β’3 months?? Oh man, I hope it doesn't take that long for me. Did you have any specific issues or was it just the general IRS slowness?

β’Mostly just slowness and bad luck. My documents got lost in the mail at one point, which set everything back. Definitely recommend sending things certified if you have to mail anything!

Has anyone tried using a tax professional or CPA to help with this process? Wondering if it's worth the extra cost to save the headache...

β’I used a CPA and it was 100% worth it. They handled everything and I didn't have to deal with the IRS at all.

β’Depends on your situation tbh. If its a simple verification, probably not worth the money. But if you have a complicated tax situation, might be a good idea.
