have u tried prayin to the IRS gods? ššø I hear they accept sacrifices in the form of completed 1040 forms lmao
Unpopular opinion: maybe we should just be grateful we're getting a refund at all? I mean, it's our own money we overpaid, but still... some people owe thousands.
Lol nah, just trying to stay positive. Trust me, I'm as annoyed as everyone else about the wait.
Anyone else think its sus that the IRS can just send these scary notices whenever they want? Like, how do we know its not a scam? š¤
Bruh, the IRS literally puts anti-scam warnings on their notices. If you're worried, you can always call their official number to verify.
Fair point. I'm just paranoid I guess lol
Hey OP, once you open the notice, you might want to check out r/tax. They have some really knowledgeable people who might be able to give more specific advice.
I feel your pain. I've been waiting on my refund for 6 months now. Every time I call, it's a different story. Hang in there!
Here's what worked for me: 1. Gather all your documents (W-2s, 1099s, etc.) 2. Write a detailed letter explaining your situation 3. Make copies of everything 4. Send it all via certified mail 5. Follow up with a call after 2 weeks It's a pain, but it got the ball rolling on my case. Good luck!
This is solid advice. I did something similar and it helped resolve my issue.
Pro tip: call your local Taxpayer Advocate Service. They can sometimes help cut through the red tape and get things resolved faster.
Plot twist: what if the notice is actually correct and you do owe money? š¤ Might be worth double-checking your records before going through all the trouble of disputing it.
Trust me, I've triple-checked everything. This is definitely their mistake.
Fair enough! Just wanted to make sure. Good luck fighting the good fight! šŖ

Whatever you do, DON'T fall for any scams. There are a lot of people out there pretending to be the IRS. Remember, the real IRS will never call you out of the blue demanding money or threatening to arrest you.
