That failure-to-file penalty is 10x worse than the failure-to-pay penalty. Once you file, call the IRS about setting up a payment plan. I was terrified to make that call, but the agent was actually really helpful and understanding. The setup fee is minimal compared to what you'll save by stopping those penalties from growing. Also, ask about "first time penalty abatement" if you've had a clean record for the past 3 years - they might waive the failure-to-pay penalty entirely, which could save you hundreds or even thousands depending on what you owe. Take action now and you'll feel so much better. The unknown is always worse than the reality!
