First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. I'm going through something similar right now - filed my claim 3 weeks ago and still stuck on "pending" payments. From reading everyone's experiences here, it seems like identity verification is the biggest culprit for delays. I actually just got an email yesterday asking me to complete ID.me verification, so that confirms what others have said about this being a common issue. The frustrating part is that they don't automatically tell you what's needed - you have to either call or wait for them to send the verification request. Definitely keep certifying though, because once it gets resolved you'll get all the back payments at once.

Update: I called the number and was able to certify! For anyone who needs it in the future, you need your SSN and PIN, and you have to answer all the same questions as online. It took about 10 minutes to go through everything. Thanks everyone for your help!

Glad you got it sorted out! Just remember that phone certification doesn't give you a confirmation number like UI Online does. If you want proof that you certified, you'll need to call again and select the option to check your payment status after 24 hours.

Also, if you ever need to check if your certification went through properly, you can call the same number and use option 2 to verify your last certification date - really helpful for peace of mind when you don't get that online confirmation.

EDD denied claim over employer address error - 6 months no payments and stuck in appeals

I'm at my breaking point with this ridiculous EDD bureaucracy. My claim has been in appeals limbo for almost 6 months over what should have been a 5-minute fix. When I filed in February after my restaurant closed down, I listed the physical restaurant address (where I worked for 7 years) instead of the parent company's headquarters address. That's it. That's the whole reason my claim was denied and sent to appeals. The company completely shut down operations at my location, but apparently I was supposed to magically know to put their corporate office in San Diego instead? I've called EDD at least 30 times trying to explain this simple mistake. I've offered to provide pay stubs, W2s, my termination letter - ANYTHING to prove I worked there. But no, they insist this has to go through a judge now. The appeals hearing keeps getting rescheduled. First April, then June, now it's set for August. Meanwhile, our savings are completely drained, credit cards maxed out, and we're falling behind on mortgage payments. All because of an ADDRESS. Something any competent employee could verify in 30 seconds by looking up the company's corporate filing or, I don't know, CALLING THEM? Has anyone dealt with this kind of bureaucratic nightmare? Any advice for speeding up an appeal or getting someone with actual authority on the phone? At this point, I'm considering contacting my state representative because this is beyond absurd.

Quick update question - have you checked if you qualify for State Disability Insurance (SDI) or Paid Family Leave while waiting for UI to resolve? Some people don't realize they might qualify for other benefits if they have health issues or caregiving responsibilities. It's separate from unemployment but could provide some temporary relief.

I don't think I'd qualify for SDI since I'm physically able to work, just laid off. And no family leave situations either. I've been taking whatever gig work I can find, but it's nowhere near enough to cover our bills. The crazy thing is I've already found a new full-time job starting next month, so this whole appeal might be for the 6 months of back benefits I'm owed!
