Just went through this last month. One thing nobody told me: if you're planning to take your leave in chunks (like I did), make sure you clarify that upfront. It can affect how they process your claim.
Does anyone know if you can apply for PFL if youre self-employed? Asking for my brother whos a freelancer and just had twins πΆπΆ
I think self-employed people can opt into SDI coverage, which would then make them eligible for PFL. But he'd need to have done that before the birth, I'm pretty sure.
Pro tip: If you do end up owing money, ask about a payment plan. They're usually pretty flexible about it.
Just a heads up, I heard they're implementing a new system next month that's supposed to speed up the process. Might be worth waiting it out if you can.
Anyone else feel like they're playing the lottery every time they try to call EDD? π
Protip: If you're really desperate, reach out to your local state representative. They sometimes have connections and can help speed things up.
This! π My rep's office was super helpful. Took about a week, but they got things moving for me.
guys im in the same boat...filed 3 weeks ago and crickets. this is so stressful. how r we supposed to pay bills??
I feel you. Have you looked into local food banks or assistance programs? They might be able to help while you wait for UI to come through.

Anyone else feel like they're trapped in a kafka-esque nightmare dealing with EDD? It's like, the more I try to fix my claim, the more messed up it gets π€‘

β’LOL for real tho. Sometimes I wonder if it's all just a big social experiment to see how much frustration humans can take ππ

Hey OP, have you tried reaching out to EDD on social media? Sometimes they respond faster there. Worth a shot!
