So glad to hear your payment came through @Dmitry! I'm dealing with a similar situation right now - doctor submitted updated medical info for my knee surgery recovery on Tuesday and still waiting. This thread has been incredibly helpful in managing my expectations. It's frustrating that EDD doesn't communicate these processing delays clearly, but at least we have this community to share real experiences. The 3-5 business day timeline for medical updates seems to be the new normal unfortunately.
Hey Leo! Tuesday to now would put you at about 3 business days, so you're right in that expected timeframe. Knee surgery recovery claims usually go pretty smoothly once they get the updated info processed. Have you checked your SDI inbox for any messages? Sometimes they send updates there before the payment actually hits. Fingers crossed yours comes through tomorrow!
@Leo I'm in a similar boat with my workers comp to SDI transition - submitted new medical certification on Wednesday and still waiting. It's reassuring to see others experiencing the same delays and that payments do eventually come through. The uncertainty is definitely the hardest part, especially when you're counting on that money for bills. Hope both of us see our payments hit soon!
This whole thread has been so helpful to read through! I'm currently waiting on a payment after my doctor submitted updated info for my anxiety/depression claim on Wednesday, so seeing everyone's timelines gives me hope. The 3-5 business day window seems consistent across different types of claims. One thing I learned from calling EDD last week (took 2 hours on hold) is that they prioritize processing based on how close you are to running out of benefits. So if you're early in your claim period, you might wait the full 5 days, but if you're near the end of your benefit period, they expedite it. Just wanted to share that info in case it helps anyone else manage their expectations!
That's really valuable information about the prioritization system! I had no idea they expedite processing based on benefit period timing. That actually explains why some people get payments faster than others even with the same type of claim. Thanks for sharing what you learned from that long hold time - those insights from actual EDD staff are gold. Hope your anxiety/depression claim payment comes through soon. Mental health claims can be especially stressful when you're already dealing with the condition itself.
Wow, that prioritization system explains so much! I was wondering why my friend got her payment in 2 days while mine took 4 - she was on week 10 of her claim while I was only on week 3. Mental health claims can definitely be extra challenging when you're already stressed about finances on top of managing your condition. Have you found the EDD portal shows any status updates before the actual payment hits, or does it just appear without warning?
Still working on it 😅 Tried clearing cache and cookies, no luck. Gonna try a different browser next.
I had the exact same E324 error last month! What finally worked for me was logging out of both EDD and ID.me completely, then restarting the whole process from scratch. Also make sure you're not using any browser extensions that might interfere. The incognito window trick that Juan mentioned is solid advice too. Don't give up - it took me 4 tries but I finally got through!
Has anyone tried going to the EDD office in person? I'm thinking about just showing up there since I can't get through on the phone.
In-person visits can be hit or miss, but if you're desperate it might be worth checking out.
I just went through the reopening process last month! Here's what worked for me: I called at exactly 8:00 AM when they opened and got through after about 2 hours of redials. The key is having everything ready - your Social Security number, last employer info, and the specific reason you're reopening (job loss, reduced hours, etc.). The agent asked me about my work search activities and any income I've had since my last claim. The whole process took about 20 minutes once I got connected, and my benefits were restored within 3 business days. Don't give up - it's frustrating but totally doable! 💪
Just a heads-up - I went through this exact situation in 2024 after my knee surgery. The 1099G form from EDD for SDI benefits is different from the 1099G you might receive for unemployment benefits, though they look similar. Make sure you're reporting it correctly on your federal return. Also, depending on your total income for the year, you might want to consult with a tax professional about how the SDI benefits affect your tax bracket. In my case, the additional income from SDI pushed me into a higher tax bracket for a portion of my income, which I wasn't expecting. Regarding when you'll receive it - EDD is legally required to provide 1099G forms by January 31st for the previous tax year. If you have an SDI Online account, you can typically access it there about a week or two before the paper copy arrives in the mail.
I also had surgery last year and got SDI and i never got a 1099G from anyone. i didnt even know i was suppose to get one. Now I'm worried!! Did i miss reporting income??
Thank you all for your helpful responses! To summarize what I've learned: 1. I will receive a 1099G form from EDD by January 31, 2026 2. It will be available in my SDI Online account, possibly before I get the mailed copy 3. SDI benefits are taxable for FEDERAL taxes, but NOT for California state taxes 4. I should plan to set aside some money for potential federal tax liability 5. Next time (hopefully there won't be one), I can choose to have taxes withheld from SDI payments This has been incredibly helpful - I had no idea about any of this! I'll keep an eye out for the form in January.
Great summary! One additional tip: If you're worried about owing taxes next year, you can make an estimated tax payment to the IRS before the end of the year to cover the potential liability from your SDI benefits. This might help avoid an underpayment penalty if your total tax due exceeds a certain threshold. The IRS has an online payment system that makes this pretty straightforward.

Update: I spoke with my doctor's office and they submitted the supplemental certification form yesterday. The office staff said they do these all the time and it should process within 7-10 days. I'll update again once I see changes in my EDD account. Thanks for all the advice!

Great to hear you're recovering faster than expected! Just wanted to add that when you do return to work, make sure to report your first day back immediately through your EDD online account or by calling. Even with the updated medical certification, you'll still need to confirm your actual return date to officially close out the claim. Also keep all documentation from your doctor's office - if there are any processing delays or issues, having that paper trail will save you headaches later.

•This is really helpful advice! I had no idea you needed to report the actual return date separately even after updating the medical certification. Question - do you know if there's a specific timeframe for reporting your first day back? Like do you have to do it the same day you return or can you wait a few days? Just want to make sure I don't mess anything up when the time comes.
