I went through this exact same nightmare a few months ago! What finally worked for me was calling EDD directly and explaining the ID.me situation. They were able to put a note on my file and process my claim through their alternative verification process. The number is hard to get through to, but keep trying early in the morning (like 8:01 AM sharp). Also, if you have any physical documents like your SSN card, birth certificate, or previous tax returns, have them ready - they might ask you to mail or fax copies. Don't lose hope, there are ways around this ID.me mess!
This is exactly what I needed to hear! Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I'm going to try calling EDD first thing tomorrow morning at 8:01 AM sharp. Did you have to wait long once you got through, or were they pretty quick to help you set up the alternative verification?
I just went through this exact same issue last month! Here's what finally worked for me: I called the EDD disability line at 1-800-480-3287 and pressed 1 for English, then 4 for disability, then 0 to speak to a rep. When I explained my ID.me was suspended, they transferred me to their technical support team who was able to bypass the ID.me requirement and let me file over the phone. It took about 2 hours total (including hold time) but they processed everything right then and there. Also, make sure you have your Social Security number, previous employer info, and medical documentation ready before you call. The key is being persistent and explaining that the ID.me suspension is preventing you from filing your claim. Don't give up - there are definitely workarounds!
FINAL UPDATE: All my payments came through today! Six weeks of back pay all at once. Such a huge relief. For anyone dealing with identity verification issues on their pregnancy disability claim, definitely call and specifically ask for expedited processing due to medical necessity. Thanks again everyone for your help!
yay!!! mine came through today too! so happy for us both! now we can focus on growing these babies instead of stressing about money lol
Congratulations on getting your payments resolved, Madison! Your story gives me so much hope. I'm currently 12 weeks pregnant with severe morning sickness and have been waiting 3 weeks for my identity verification to process. I submitted all my documents but haven't heard anything back. After reading through all these comments, I'm definitely going to try that Claimyr service and use the specific phrasing about CCR 2706-2 for medical necessity. It's so stressful being sick AND worrying about money at the same time. Thank you for sharing your experience and keeping us updated - it really helps to know there's light at the end of the tunnel!
I'm so sorry you're dealing with this too, Carmen! The combination of severe morning sickness and financial stress is absolutely awful. Definitely try the Claimyr service - it really was a game changer for getting through to someone quickly. When you talk to the EDD rep, make sure to emphasize that you're on doctor's orders for your pregnancy complications and specifically request "expedited processing under CCR 2706-2 for medical necessity" like William mentioned. Also, don't be afraid to mention that the financial stress is potentially impacting your pregnancy health - they seemed to take that seriously when I called. Hoping you get your payments sorted out soon! Keep us posted on how it goes.
I went through this exact situation with my first baby! Had a C-section in December and developed some postpartum complications that required an extension. Your doctor can definitely submit the extension request before your 8-week period ends - in fact, my OB's office recommended doing it around week 6 to avoid any potential gaps in benefits. The key is making sure your doctor provides very detailed medical justification on the supplemental certification form. For your incision healing issues, they need to document specific problems like "delayed wound healing with signs of infection" or "abnormal scar tissue formation requiring extended recovery time." For the postpartum anxiety, make sure they explain how it's functionally impairing your ability to work - things like concentration difficulties, sleep disruption, or inability to handle work stress. I'd also suggest asking your doctor's office if they have experience with EDD disability extensions. Some offices handle these regularly and know exactly what language gets approved quickly. My extension was processed within about 10 days because my doctor was very thorough with the documentation. Don't stress too much about the timing - you're still early in your recovery period and have plenty of time to get this sorted out. Focus on healing and let your medical team handle the paperwork! You've got this mama! 💕
This is such great advice, thank you! I love how you broke down exactly what kind of specific language the doctor should use - that's super helpful since I wasn't sure how detailed they needed to be. The tip about asking if the doctor's office has experience with EDD extensions is really smart too. I'm going to call them tomorrow and make sure whoever handles the paperwork knows what they're doing. It's so reassuring to hear your extension was processed quickly with good documentation. I'm definitely feeling more confident about this process now. Thanks for the encouragement and the heart - it really means a lot during this stressful time! 💕
I'm currently dealing with a similar situation! Had my C-section 4 weeks ago and I'm also having some healing issues with my incision. Reading through all these responses has been SO helpful - I had no idea I could have my doctor submit the extension paperwork early. My OB office told me to wait until closer to the 8-week mark, but based on what everyone's saying here, I think I'm going to push them to submit it around week 6 instead. One question for those who've been through this - did any of you have issues with EDD questioning the extension, or were most of you approved pretty smoothly as long as the documentation was detailed? I'm a little nervous about the whole process since this is my first time dealing with SDI. Also, has anyone had experience with extensions for wound healing specifically? My incision just doesn't seem to be closing properly and my doctor says it might take several extra weeks. Thanks for all the amazing advice in this thread!
Hey there! I'm so glad this thread has been helpful for you too. I went through an extension for wound healing issues last year and it was approved without any problems. EDD seems pretty understanding about documented medical complications, especially when it comes to surgical site healing problems. From what I experienced and what I've seen others go through, as long as your doctor is specific about the wound healing issues (like "incision dehiscence" or "delayed primary healing" rather than just "slow healing"), you should be fine. Take photos of your incision if you can - some doctors include visual documentation with their paperwork which can really strengthen the case. Definitely push your OB to submit around week 6 like others have suggested. My doctor initially wanted to wait too, but I insisted based on advice from this community and it worked out perfectly. The processing took about 2 weeks so I had seamless coverage. You're being smart to plan ahead! Trust your instincts about your healing - you know your body better than anyone. Wound complications are totally legitimate reasons for extensions and EDD recognizes that. Don't stress too much about the approval, just focus on getting proper documentation from your medical team! 💪
Hey OP, what kind of payment are you waiting for? Regular UI, PUA, or something else? The process can be different depending on the type.
Gotcha. For regular UI, it usually takes about 2-3 weeks to process. If it's been longer, definitely try to get in touch with them.
I'm in a similar boat - filed for disability benefits about 6 weeks ago and still haven't heard anything back. The uncertainty is killing me! I've tried calling the disability line but it's just as bad as the regular UI line. Has anyone had success with the disability claims specifically? I'm wondering if there are different tricks or if I should be calling a different number. Really hoping we all get some answers soon! 🤞

As someone who went through a similar back injury situation, I just wanted to add that it's totally normal to feel nervous about returning to work, especially with a physical job. Since you mentioned your work involves heavy lifting, you might want to ask your employer about any accommodations they can make during your first few weeks back - like lighter duties or modified tasks. Many employers are required to provide reasonable accommodations under the ADA. Also, don't hesitate to communicate with your doctor if you start having increased pain after returning. It's better to address issues early rather than push through and risk a more serious re-injury. Good luck with your return to work!

•That's really great advice about asking for accommodations! I hadn't thought about that but it makes total sense. My employer has been pretty understanding so far, so hopefully they'll work with me on modified duties for the first few weeks. I'm definitely going to keep a close eye on how my back feels and not try to be a hero about it. Thanks for sharing your experience - it's reassuring to hear from someone who went through something similar.

I went through something very similar with my SDI claim last year! The remaining benefit amount definitely threw me off at first too. Just to add to what everyone else has said - when you do go back to work, make sure you keep all your documentation from EDD about when your claim officially ended. I had to provide proof to my employer's HR department that my disability leave was properly closed out. Also, if your workplace has an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), they might be able to help you navigate the transition back to work and any accommodation requests. The first few weeks back can be mentally challenging too, not just physically. Take care of yourself!
