Have you tried faxing them? I know it sounds ancient, but sometimes old school methods work best with these outdated systems.
I went through this exact same thing a few months ago! The key is to be super persistent and don't let them brush you off. Here's what worked for me: 1. Get your documentation ready - any texts, emails, or notes about when you actually returned to work 2. When you do get through to someone, ask to speak with a supervisor if the first person can't help 3. File an appeal if they deny your claim - sometimes that's the only way to get a real review 4. Keep certifying for benefits while you're fighting it, even if there's a discrepancy The whole process took me about 6 weeks but I eventually got it sorted and received all my back pay. Don't give up! The system is broken but if you stay on top of it, you can get through this. 💪
I'm going through the same thing right now! Been stuck on this for two days. What's really helped me is trying to certify super early in the morning (like 5-6 AM) when fewer people are on the system. Also, make sure you're not using any browser extensions that might interfere - I had to disable my ad blocker to get it to work. If you're still having issues, document everything with screenshots so you have proof you tried to certify on time. The EDD system is notorious for these glitches but they usually honor your certification if you can show you made legitimate attempts. Good luck!
This is really helpful advice, thank you! I never thought about trying in the early morning hours. I've been attempting during normal business hours when everyone else is probably doing the same thing. The screenshot documentation tip is brilliant too - I should have been doing that from the start. It's such a relief to know that others have gotten through similar issues and that EDD will usually work with you if you can prove you tried. Definitely going to set my alarm for 5 AM tomorrow and give it another shot! 🤞
I'm dealing with this exact same issue right now! Been trying to certify since yesterday and keep getting kicked out of the system. It's so stressful when you're depending on these benefits. I tried calling this morning but gave up after being on hold for 2 hours. Thanks to everyone sharing their tips here - I'm going to try certifying at 5 AM tomorrow and also check the mobile app. It's reassuring to know I'm not the only one struggling with this system. Hopefully they get these glitches sorted out soon! 🤞
Just checking back - were you able to get through to SDI? If they told you it could take weeks for reissue, ask to speak with a supervisor about expediting due to financial hardship. Sometimes they can process it faster.
We finally got through yesterday after using the Claimyr service someone mentioned! They confirmed the check went to our old address and placed a stop payment. The representative said they'll expedite the new check since it's a substantial amount and we explained our situation. Should have the new one in 5-7 business days. Such a relief! Thanks to everyone for the help!
That's great news that you got it resolved! For anyone else reading this thread who might face a similar issue, I'd also recommend checking with your old address if possible. Sometimes apartment complexes or new tenants will hold mail for a while. I had a friend who got their disability check back this way when EDD sent it to the wrong place. Also worth noting - if you move again, make sure to update your address with BOTH regular EDD and the SDI division separately since they don't always sync up automatically. Glad everything worked out for you!
This is really helpful advice! I'm new here but dealing with a similar situation right now. My disability check also went to my old address from 6 months ago. I didn't even think about contacting the old place directly - that's a great backup plan while I'm waiting for EDD to sort things out. Quick question though - when you say to update with both regular EDD and SDI separately, do they have different phone numbers or online portals? I want to make sure I cover all my bases when I move next month.
I'm going through this nightmare right now too! Been trying to get into my SDI account for 4 days straight with zero success on the text codes. What's really frustrating is that I can see other people are getting through sometimes, so it's clearly not a complete system outage. I tried calling EDD yesterday and was on hold for 3 hours before getting disconnected. At this point I'm wondering if I should just drive to a local office in person, but I'm not even sure they can help with online account issues. Has anyone tried going in person for verification problems like this?
I feel your pain! I actually tried going to a local office last year for a similar issue and unfortunately they told me that online account problems have to be resolved through their tech support line - the in-person staff can't access or reset your online login credentials. However, if you're just trying to check your claim status and payments, they might be able to look that up for you in person even if they can't fix the login issue. It's worth a shot if you have time, but definitely call ahead to see if they're taking walk-ins. The wait times at the offices can be just as brutal as the phone lines though.
This is such a common issue and it's really frustrating that EDD hasn't fixed their 2FA system properly! I went through the same thing about 6 months ago when I needed to access my disability claim. What ultimately worked for me was a combination of things: I switched from using Safari to Firefox, made sure I was on WiFi instead of cellular data, and most importantly - I found out my phone carrier (AT&T) was automatically filtering the EDD texts as spam even though I had spam filtering turned off in my settings. I had to call AT&T and specifically ask them to whitelist shortcode 95877 which is what EDD uses for verification texts. After that, the codes started coming through within seconds. Also, try requesting the code and then immediately putting your phone in airplane mode for 30 seconds, then turning it back on - sometimes this forces the message to come through. The whole system is a mess but hopefully one of these tricks helps!
Thank you so much for the detailed info about AT&T filtering! I'm also on AT&T and never thought to check if they were blocking the shortcode specifically. I'll definitely call them about whitelisting 95877. The airplane mode trick is interesting too - I've heard similar things work for other verification issues. It's crazy that we have to become tech experts just to access basic government services! Really appreciate you sharing what worked for you.

I'm dealing with this exact issue right now too! Been on direct deposit for months with no problems, then suddenly last week I got a paper check instead. Checked my UI Online account and everything looks correct - same bank info, same routing number. It's so frustrating because I rely on that money being available immediately through DD. Has anyone noticed if this is happening more frequently lately? Like maybe EDD is having system-wide issues? I'm wondering if I should just wait it out for a week or two to see if it fixes itself, or if I need to jump through all the hoops of calling them. The thought of spending half my day on hold just to fix something that was working fine is making me want to pull my hair out! 😤 Thanks to everyone sharing their experiences here - at least I know I'm not alone in this madness!

•I've been seeing more posts about this lately too, so you might be onto something about system-wide issues! I'd definitely try calling your bank first like @GalaxyGazer suggested - that's such a quick check compared to the EDD phone maze. If your bank says everything looks good on their end, then yeah, you'll probably need to call EDD. But honestly, if it was working fine for months and just suddenly stopped, that sounds more like a technical glitch on their end rather than a setup issue. Maybe give it one more payment cycle to see if it auto-corrects, but definitely don't wait too long if you need that immediate access to funds. The unpredictability of when these things get fixed is the worst part! 😫

I'm in the exact same boat! Set up direct deposit when I first applied but I'm still getting paper checks three months later. What's really frustrating is that I called about this issue back in December and the rep said it was "fixed" but obviously it wasn't. Now I'm seeing all these posts about it being a widespread problem and I'm wondering if there's some kind of system bug they're not telling us about. I'm definitely going to try the bank verification suggestion from @GalaxyGazer before calling EDD again - that's such a smart angle I hadn't considered! And the local office idea sounds promising too if I can find one nearby that's actually open for walk-ins. For everyone dealing with this - maybe we should all start documenting when we call, who we talk to, and what they tell us? Seems like there's no consistency in the solutions they're offering, and having a record might help if we need to escalate this issue higher up the chain. This shouldn't be this complicated! 🤦♀️

•Great idea about documenting everything! I've been dealing with government agencies long enough to know that keeping detailed records is absolutely crucial. I'd suggest noting the date, time, rep name (if they give it), confirmation numbers, and exactly what they said they did to "fix" it. The fact that you were told it was fixed in December but it's still not working really points to either a bigger system issue or reps not actually having the tools/knowledge to properly resolve this. I've seen this pattern before with other agencies - front-line staff say it's fixed but the backend systems never actually get updated. @GalaxyGazer's bank suggestion is definitely worth trying first, and honestly, starting a shared document or thread where we track all our experiences might help identify patterns that could be useful if we need to file complaints or escalate. This level of dysfunction isn't normal even for EDD! 📝
