Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. Today my call dropped because of EDD and Claimyr heard my concern on the same chat and another call was made within the hour.

Since you mentioned you're having trouble reaching the county office, make sure you're trying early in the morning right when they open. That's usually the best time to get through. Also, email them through your BenefitsCal account - it creates a documented trail of your attempts to report the theft, which can be important if there are any disputes about when you reported it. For your immediate needs, the county should be able to issue emergency CalFresh benefits within 3 days if you explain your situation. But you MUST get through to them to request this. Be persistent. If your worker isn't responding, ask to speak with a supervisor.

Sorry this happened to you! For anyone else dealing with this - there's a new law (I think from 2023) that better protects victims of EBT theft. Counties are supposed to replace stolen benefits more quickly now. Make sure when you file your claim you specifically ask about the "EBT theft protection" law and say you need replacement benefits while waiting for the investigation. I'd also recommend contacting your state representative's office - they can sometimes speed things up.

that law is JOKE!!!! they still make u wait forever and half the time deny ur claim saying "no evidence of theft" even with police report. i been waiting 6 MONTHS!!!

The fact that this happened twice in 3 months suggests either card skimming in your area or someone has access to your card info. Has your CalWORKs case ever been sanctioned for non-cooperation with Child Support in the past? If so, make sure you tell your worker about this new development right away so they can lift any sanction and restore your full benefits. The fact that you've been cooperating all along is good - some people refuse to provide information and get their grants reduced. Also, once child support starts coming in, you'll get a notice from both DCSS (child support) and CalWORKs explaining how the payments affect your benefits. No I've always cooperated with them. But I admit I didn't give them much info cuz he disappeared when I was pregnant and I didn't know where he went. They must have found him through his family or something. I'm definitely gonna call my worker tomorrow!

Congrats on them finally finding him! I went through this exact situation 2 years ago. A few things to keep in mind: - The child support office will probably send you paperwork to fill out about your expenses and his information (if you have any) - They might ask you to attend a "case conference" before any court hearing to try to work out an agreement - Keep all the paperwork they send you! You'll need it for your CalWORKs worker too - Don't be surprised if he tries to claim he has no income or is unemployed - they have ways to investigate that The whole process is honestly pretty slow but at least now there's movement on your case. And yeah definitely report this to your CalWORKs worker ASAP so there's no issues later. Good luck mama, you've been dealing with this for 7 years so you're already stronger than you know! 💪
