If I could give 10 stars I would

If I could give 10 stars I would If I could give 10 stars I would Such an amazing service so needed during the times when EDD almost never picks up Claimyr gets me on the phone with EDD every time without fail faster. A much needed service without Claimyr I would have never received the payment I needed to support me during my postpartum recovery. Thank you so much Claimyr!

Really made a difference

Really made a difference, save me time and energy from going to a local office for making the call.

Worth not wasting your time calling for hours.

Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. Today my call dropped because of EDD and Claimyr heard my concern on the same chat and another call was made within the hour.

An incredibly helpful service

An incredibly helpful service! Got me connected to a CA EDD agent without major hassle (outside of EDD's agents dropping calls – which Claimyr has free protection for). If you need to file a new claim and can't do it online, pay the $ to Claimyr to get the process started. Absolutely worth it!

Consistent,frustration free, quality Service.

Used this service a couple times now. Before I'd call 200 times in less than a weak frustrated as can be. But using claimyr with a couple hours of waiting i was on the line with an representative or on hold. Dropped a couple times but each reconnected not long after and was mission accomplished, thanks to Claimyr.

IT WORKS!! Not a scam!

I tried for weeks to get thru to EDD PFL program with no luck. I gave this a try thinking it may be a scam. OMG! It worked and They got thru within an hour and my claim is going to finally get paid!! I upgraded to the $60 call. Best $60 spent!

Just to clarify some confusion in this thread: The document you specifically need is called a "Notice of Benefit Determination" from EDD. It clearly states which program you're receiving benefits from (SDI in your case). You can download this directly from your EDD online account under "Claim History" then "Notices and Determination". Print this plus your payment history showing the benefit type. Submit both together to CalFresh with a cover letter explaining these documents prove you are ONLY receiving SDI benefits. If they still give you trouble, request a hearing immediately - they have to prove why they're denying you.

Thank you SO MUCH for the specific document name! Just logged in and found it exactly where you said. Will submit tomorrow with the payment history and explanation letter. Really appreciate everyone's help!

Also wanted to add - if you continue having issues after submitting those EDD documents, you can contact your local legal aid organization for free help. Many have CalFresh specialists who can intervene with the county on your behalf. In my experience, sometimes a call from an advocate gets things moving way faster than when you're dealing with them alone. Hope you get this resolved quickly - no one should have to go hungry over bureaucratic confusion!

This is such great advice! I didn't even know legal aid organizations had CalFresh specialists. Do you happen to know how to find the local legal aid office? Is there like a directory or should I just Google "legal aid [my county]"? I'm in San Bernardino County if that helps. Really hoping the EDD documents work but it's good to know there are advocates who can help if the county keeps being difficult.

Just wanted to add that if you're having trouble getting through to anyone, try calling first thing in the morning (like 8 AM) when they open. I work part-time at a community center and we always tell people the phone lines are clearest in the first hour. Also, don't give up if the first agency you call is out of funding - there are usually multiple organizations in each county that administer these programs. I've seen people get help from their 3rd or 4th try when the first few places were tapped out. Keep a list of everyone you've called so you don't repeat yourself. Good luck with the 14-day deadline - that's really stressful but there are definitely options out there!

This is such great advice about calling early! I never thought about timing mattering so much. The multiple organizations tip is really helpful too - I was getting discouraged after the first place said they were out of funds. Having only 14 days is definitely stressful but reading all these responses gives me hope that there are way more options than I realized. Going to start making calls tomorrow morning at 8 AM sharp!

Just went through this exact situation 3 months ago! Here's what worked for me as a CalFresh recipient: 1. Applied for LIHEAP through my county's Community Action Agency (got $450 toward my bill) 2. Called my utility company (SCE) and got enrolled in CARE program for ongoing 20% discount 3. Got connected to their payment plan to spread out remaining balance The key was doing ALL of these at the same time, not waiting for one to process before starting the next. With your 14-day deadline, definitely call your utility company TODAY and mention you're applying for assistance - they legally have to postpone disconnection while applications are pending. Also bring your CalFresh EBT card when you apply for LIHEAP - it speeds up the income verification process since you're already pre-qualified. Don't forget to ask about the weatherization program too if your place is drafty! Total time from application to getting help was about 3 weeks, but the disconnection protection started immediately once I called the utility company. You got this!

Just to follow up on this thread - for future reference, here's how to verify if a call is actually from the county: 1. Legitimate county calls about CalFresh typically come from: - The automated system (1-844-741-0373) - Your specific county office (check your paperwork for their number) 2. County workers will NEVER ask for: - Your full Social Security Number over the phone - Your EBT card number and PIN - Banking information 3. If you're unsure, hang up and call back using the official number from your notices or the BenefitsCal website Glad you figured out this was legitimate, OP! Make sure to submit that verification document ASAP to avoid any benefit delays.

Thank you! I submitted the pay stub through BenefitsCal yesterday and called my worker this morning. They confirmed everything is processed and my benefits will continue normally. This thread has been super helpful!

This is such a helpful thread! I've been getting those automated calls too and never knew if they were legit. It's really frustrating how vague that "This is Cal..." message is - they should definitely be clearer about which program they're calling about. I'm bookmarking this for future reference since it sounds like these calls are pretty common. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences!

Totally agree! I just joined this community and I'm so glad I found this thread. I've been on CalFresh for about 6 months now and I had no idea about that automated number - I probably would have panicked and thought it was a scam too if I got that call. It's really helpful to see everyone sharing their experiences and tips. The suggestion about using Claimyr to avoid those endless hold times sounds like a lifesaver too!

does anyone know if they backdated payments? like if it takes them 30 days to approve me will i get food money for that whole month or just from when they approve me??

0 coins

Yes, CalFresh benefits are provided from the date of application if you're approved. So if you apply on June 1st but aren't approved until June 30th, you'll receive benefits for the entire month of June on your EBT card when it's issued. This is called "prorated benefits" for the first month, and it's based on your application date, not your approval date.

Hey Sean! I'm new to this whole CalFresh thing too and was stressing about similar stuff. Reading through everyone's responses here has been super helpful. I just wanted to add that when I applied last month, they also asked about my rent and utility bills during the interview - apparently these can help increase your benefit amount through deductions. Since you're working part-time, make sure to mention all your housing costs! Also, totally agree with what others said about answering unknown calls - I almost missed my interview because I didn't recognize the number. Good luck with your application!

Thanks for jumping in @Lilah Brooks! Really appreciate you sharing your experience. I'm definitely going to make sure I have all my rent and utility info ready - I pay about $1,200 for rent and around $150 for utilities, so hopefully that helps with the deductions. It's so nerve-wracking being new to all this but everyone here has been incredibly helpful. Did your benefits end up being more than you expected with the housing deductions?

BTW - another tip: when you're in the store and ready to check out, you can quickly unlock the card, check out, then lock it again right there in line. Takes like 10 seconds. I've been doing this for months and my cashiers don't even notice the tiny delay. BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY!! My friend had $1200 stolen and they only replaced half of it!!!

0 coins

That's exactly what I'll do! Just set it up and the app seems pretty fast to unlock/lock. Thanks everyone for the help! Feeling much better about keeping our benefits safe.

Just wanted to add - if you're worried about remembering to lock/unlock, you can also set up a routine where you only unlock right before swiping and lock immediately after the transaction goes through. I've gotten into the habit of doing this and it's basically second nature now. Also, the app shows your last transaction time, so you can double-check that everything looks right. Really glad you're taking steps to protect your family's benefits - with three kids, you definitely can't afford to lose anything to these thieves!

0 coins

That's such a smart routine! I'm definitely going to try that unlock-right-before-swiping approach. With all these horror stories about people losing hundreds or even thousands, I can't take any chances. Just knowing I can see the transaction history in real time makes me feel so much more in control. Really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences - this community is amazing for looking out for each other's families!
