my accountant told me business owners cant get unemployment but after reading this thread im wondering if she was wrong
Final thought - even if you think you might not qualify, it's worth filing anyway. The worst case is they deny you, but you might be surprised and get approved.
Just got off the phone with Washington ESD about my 1099-G (finally got through!) and they confirmed that all unemployment benefits are reportable income. They also said if you notice any errors on your 1099-G, contact them immediately to get it corrected.
This thread has been super helpful! I had no idea about the tax implications when I was collecting unemployment last year. Going to get my 1099-G and start working on my taxes this weekend.
One last tip - when you file, make sure your contact information is current and check your account regularly. Sometimes they need additional info and if you miss those requests it can delay everything.
And if you do need to reach them about anything, that Claimyr service I mentioned earlier really does work. Saved me from calling dozens of times.
This thread has been super helpful! I'm in a similar boat with a potential layoff coming. Going to bookmark this for reference when the time comes.

Start gathering all your employment documents now while you apply - you might need them later for verification or if any issues come up with your claim.

•Keep your termination letter, any severance paperwork, W-2s from last year, and a record of all your job applications once you start your work search requirement.
