If your benefit amount seems too low when you get the determination, you can always call Washington ESD to ask them to explain the calculation. Sometimes there are errors in how they recorded your wages, especially if you had multiple employers.
Good point about wage errors! That happened to a friend of mine - Washington ESD had the wrong information from one of his employers and his benefit amount was way lower than it should have been.
Thanks everyone for all the helpful information! This thread has been way more useful than trying to navigate the Washington ESD website on my own. I feel like I have a much better understanding of what to expect now.
The learning curve is steep but you'll get the hang of it. Most important things: file immediately, file weekly claims every week, do your job search, report all income. Follow those rules and you should be fine.
For anyone still having trouble reaching Washington ESD by phone, that Claimyr service really is worth it. I was skeptical at first but it actually worked. Saved me so much time and frustration.
One last tip - if you do get approved, make sure you understand the difference between your weekly benefit amount and your maximum benefit amount. Your weekly amount is what you get each week, but your maximum is the total you can collect over the entire benefit year. Most people can collect for up to 26 weeks.
The system can be overwhelming at first but it's really designed to help people who have worked and lost their jobs through no fault of their own. From everything you've described, you sound like exactly the type of person unemployment insurance is meant to help. Don't let the bureaucracy intimidate you.

Just want to add - if you're having trouble with the online application, there are also phone and in-person options, though they're much slower. The online route is definitely the way to go if you can manage it.

•Good to know there are other options as backup. I'm pretty comfortable with online forms so I'll stick with that.

•The online application is available 24/7 too, which is convenient if you're a night owl like me.

I applied online last year and my biggest tip is to have everything ready before you start. I had to stop in the middle to find some documents and when I came back my session had expired. Wasted like an hour.

•That's exactly the kind of thing I wanted to avoid. I'll make sure to gather everything first.

•Smart move. Also, if you have any questions about eligibility or the process, Washington ESD has a pretty good FAQ section on their website.
