me and my bf both got fired from the same company back in 2023 and they didnt report his wages either!!! make sure you file your weekly claims even while waiting for them to sort out the wage thing!!! that was our mistake, we thought we had to wait and then they denied us backpayment for those weeks we didnt file weekly claims even tho it wasnt our fault!
This is a really important point! Always file your weekly claims even if your initial application is pending or has issues. You can't go back and claim weeks retroactively even if you were eligible during that time. The system makes you certify each week.
Update: Just submitted my application and found the section where I could report my wages manually! I uploaded all my paystubs and wrote a brief explanation in the comments section. Now looking for that ESD 5208 form to submit. Thank you all for the guidance - I'll keep filing my weekly claims while this gets sorted out. Hopefully they'll process everything quickly since rent is due soon... 😬
Great job! The form should be in the 'Forms' section of your eServices account, but if you can't find it, try searching directly on the ESD website. Fingers crossed for quick processing - make sure to check your account and messages daily in case they need additional information!
UGH these companies that fight every claim make me so ANGRY!!!! I worked for a place like that - they'd fire people for made up reasons then contest EVERY SINGLE unemployment claim. And ESD just believes whatever garbage employers say!!! Make sure you emphasize that they NEVER warned you about vaping before. In my experience, judges want to see that employers gave warnings before firing for rule violations. Also, if you can get ANY coworker to text or email you confirming others vaped too without getting fired, that's gold!!! Shows they singled you out after your complaint email. Keep fighting!!!! The system is designed to wear you down but DON'T GIVE UP!!!!!
You make an excellent point about the lack of prior warnings. Under Washington's unemployment regulations, even an actual rule violation may not qualify as misconduct if the employee wasn't given proper warning that the behavior could lead to termination. This is especially relevant for policies that aren't consistently enforced.

I filed the appeal yesterday! Hearing is scheduled for next month. I contacted the Unemployment Law Project and have a consultation with them tomorrow. I've been documenting everything and got two former coworkers (who recently quit) willing to provide statements about the work conditions and how management reacted to my email. Feeling cautiously hopeful but still super stressed about money in the meantime.
Something nobody mentioned yet - make sure you're accurately reporting your separation reason from the previous job. If you selected "laid off" but your employer reports something different (like performance issues), that can delay your claim processing because it triggers an investigation. Double-check that your separation reason matches what your employer would say.
That's a good point I hadn't considered. My separation letter clearly states it was a layoff due to department restructuring, so hopefully there won't be any discrepancy there. I'm wondering if that's why it's taking so long to process though...
One more important detail: When you file the weekly claim for the week you started working, make sure you answer "Yes" to the question about whether you're still seeking work for that week IF you were still actively job searching before accepting this position. Some people mistakenly select "No" because they accepted a job, but ESD wants to know if you were available and seeking work during any portion of that week before you started working.
Wait I think I've been doing this wrong. If I accept a job offer on Monday but don't start until the following Monday, how should I answer the "looking for work" question for that week between acceptance and starting?
For the week between accepting the job and starting it, you should answer "Yes" to whether you're seeking work. Until you actually start working and earning wages, you're still considered to be seeking work for unemployment purposes. You only answer "No" when you're no longer available for work (like if you're on vacation, sick, or have actually started working).

Finally got it figured out! After trying everything online with no luck, I ended up using that Claimyr service someone mentioned above. Got through to an ESD rep in about 30 minutes. Turns out there was a flag on my account from my previous employer that was preventing the reopen button from showing. The rep was able to clear it and reactivate my claim. Filed my weekly claim for this week right after the call. Such a relief!

Just to clarify some of the advice here: while expanding your search area is reasonable, be careful about applying for jobs you have absolutely no intention of accepting. If you're offered a position and refuse it without good cause, ESD can disqualify you for benefits. "Good cause" typically means the job is unsuitable for your skills/experience, pays substantially less than your previous work, or would require an unreasonable commute. What constitutes an "unreasonable commute" varies, but generally anything over 1 hour each way might qualify - though ESD evaluates this case-by-case. If you're applying for remote positions or jobs in other cities with the genuine willingness to relocate if offered, that's completely legitimate. I'd suggest focusing on quality rather than quantity in your job search activities. Three meaningful activities each week that actually advance your employment prospects are better than scrambling to hit the number with activities that won't lead anywhere.
